Hero VIII HD Audio ot AC97 BIOS Setting - where is it ?

Hello,

On page 1-35 of the motherboard manual connection details are shown for the AAFP connector.

HD Audio and AC97 details are shown, and it is stated that the required one can be selected in BIOS.

I have been unable to locate this setting.

The HD Audio Controller is enabled in BIOS - on my old motherboard (Asus P6X58D) once this was enabled a further option (Front Panel Type) is displayed, but on the Hero VIII there is no such display.

Where is this setting on the Hero VIII ?

My case (a HAF X) has both connections - I don't want to plug the wrong one in and damage the motherboard.

Regards

Nick.

Hi NickG

There should be AC-97 and HD audio connectors on the same cable from your case, use HD audio as it's superior to AC-97.

Front panel type may not be an option in the newer motherboards my maximus v extreme had it but my maximus viii formula does not.

Thanks for the replies.

In my BIOS under PCH Configuration the option "HD Audio Configuration" does not appear, even though it is shown on the screen shot in the manual.

I note that the manual does not mention it, so wonder if the screen shot is from a different motherboard.

Is there any chance of damaging the motherboard if I plug the "HD Audio" connector in when it may be expecting an "AC97" connector ?

My case (HAF X) has both connections on the same cable.

Also, do you need a different headset/mic combination depending on whether the HD Audio or AC97 connector is plugged into the motherboard ?

If you have the HD Audio connector connected to the AAFP header and HD Audio selected in the bios you should be good to go. You will be using the 3.5mm jacks on your case so any headset with these jacks will work.

Personally I would use the motherboard audio.
