Gene VIII + Windows 10 64bit + AI suite III = USB not working and cannot shutdown?

Mugencow
Level 7
Hi , is there any one having problem as I did, my computer could not shutdown properly and all USB ports will not working if I have installed AI Suite III

But if I uninstall the AI suite III, everything will work fine, I could able to shutdown and reboot computer properly, all USB could function well.

Once I have reinstalled AI suite III, same things happened again, unable to shutdown and USB not function, except if I open AI Suite and change the Energy profile, once I have changed it, everything will back to normal.
Funny is, those symptoms will be occurred again later.

And I noticed that every time I changed the energy profile in AI Suite, there will be an error of ACPI in Windows Event log.

I reported this problem to Asus, but seems they don't want to follow up it.

Could anyone help me?

Thanks, I'll give that a try. Unfortunately I had the shutdown problem again last night, and checking USB's this morning, that issue is back as well. Seems like either coincidence that everything was ok after the new AI Suite install, or else it temporarily fixed something that has since become an issue again. Annoying. Guess I'll try reinstalling it with a registry clean this time just to rule that out.

Edit: Did some digging out of interest. Looks like a driver problem (at least for me).

Hi Guys, I could confirm that Install AI Suite 3 Beta will temporary fixed all the issues, but it will come back later.

Hi guys!

New version of AI Suite 3 (v1.01.30) and DIP 5 (v1.03.00) showed up. Have anyone tried installing them? Did they resolve the shutdown and USB issues? All your input will be well appreciated 😉

Thanks in advance and cheers!

It didn't resolve, for me only thing that worked was uninstalling aisuite. After that not a single shutdown fail. I would have done it earlier if i knew same things can be done in bios easily.

I have the same problem too. But my MB is Z170-A, Ai Suite is the newest version(1.01.30). The issue occurs both in win7 and win10. In win7, I tried to uninstall the AI Suite(AISuiteCleaner not used), the problem seemed disappeared, but when powering off, after the HDDs shut down, the system stuck, there's no other way but long-pressing the power btn to shut it down.
Also, I tried newly install win7 and win10 with every driver and software needed installed, except the AI Suite, and the system runs with no problem, when AI Suite is installed, the problem occurs.
But I haven't tried swaping energy save mode, it seems that it will work temporarily.
I'm from China and I have contacted ASUS support about the problem, they say they will contact me within 48 hours, hope this will work.

You're probably all long gone by now, but for what it's worth I GOT IT FIGURED OUT. IT'S THE DAMN CPU FAN EXTREME QUIET SETTING IN FAN EXPERT THAT IS CAUSING ALL THE ISSUES. I've been stalking this thread for the last month, ever since I got my Z170 Premium. Like the rest of you I experienced the monitor off but fans and lights on problem on shut down with Ai Suite installed. Problem went away without Ai Suite. I've been trying to diagnose this problem during my spare time to see what is exactly causing the issue since a majority of Asus motherboard owners don't have this problem and Asus claims to not be able to reproduce it.

I noticed once when adjusting fan settings in bios with the qfan auto calibration that the system failed to shut down without Ai suite installed and that the motherboard would occasionally glitch up when trying to make adjustments to the cpu fan of my H90 water cooler radiator. So I tried setting bios to defaults (not run q fan auto calibration) and reinstalled Ai Suite 3, I noticed that it seemed that before I ran optimization that the computer would shut down. After running optimization (including fan expert) I would start running into the failed shut down problems. So I started playing around with the fan expert settings and discovered that if I set the CPU Fan Extreme Quiet Setting to off that the shut down problems stopped. I've been testing this for nearly 5 hours now and it consistently shuts down without a problem. I also tried turning it back on and sure enough it started failing at shut down again, turn it off and problem solved. I am guessing that some fans are not fully compatible with this setting and/or have a problem running at such low rpm's. Somehow this is actually causing some sort of BIOS/Fan Expert hang that prevents shutdown. Personally I plan to order an ultra quiet Noctua Radiator Fan and see if fan expert can run that with the extreme quiet setting on and if not I'll just leave the setting off since that fan is already very quiet. I sincerely hope that this solution is not an isolated case and works equally for you all. At this time I have no idea if this is at all related to the usb port bug.

That's an interesting discovery, thanks for sharing 😄
I might actually install ai suite again.

Hmm, so you had the shutdown problem without aisuite 3 when running qfan calibration. Well, i used to use aisuite 3 and had the problem, now i am using qfan calibration settings in bios and i don't have that problem anymore. So your discovery doesn't apply to my case im afraid. Complicated.

The H90 Corsair software will conflict with Ai Suite, because they are both controlling the fans. I recommend turn off AI Suite for Corsair to control the fans or you can use AI suite
and disable Corsair software.
Sincerely,
Legolas

In response to the two posts above I would like to point out that
1) the failure to shut down with q-fan calibration was a one time thing that happened when I shut down from within the bios straight after using qfan calibration and possibly changing some other cpu fan settings. All that did was point me in the right direction (that it was cpu fan compatibility problem causing fan expert 3 to fail shut down when installed). I did not mean to imply that after q fan calibration that windows would consistently fail to shut down, that only happened with Ai Suite 3 installed.
2) The Corsair H90 Cpu Cooler does not in any way shape or form have any Corsair software for controlling the fans, even if it did I would not have installed it to avoid any conflict. I have only ever controlled my fans through fan expert 3 or the BIOS directly.
Finally I would like to mention that I am now going on 3 days with my new Noctua NF A14 PWM fan mounted on my radiator and connected as cpu fan. I reran the fan expert optimization and I am happy to report that my motherboard is completly stable with Ai Suite 3 installed and I have no failure to shutdown issues. I have probably shut down around 100 times to test this and have shut down after multiple hours with no issues. Before the cpu fan switch with Ai Suite 3 installed I would fail to shutdown 4/5 times unless I neutered the fan expert settings (cpu extreme quiet mode off and high minimum rpm's) or unistalled Ai Suite 3. I highly recommend completely powering down (psu off) for a few minutes after changing fans or fiddling with fan expert setting as I did have a few occasions (with my old fan and temporary fan expert fix) of shut down problem not going away until I cold booted the machine.Again I repeat that since I changed the cpu fan all shutdown issues have been resolved with Ai Suite 3 installed.
