Gene VIII + Windows 10 64bit + AI suite III = USB not working and cannot shutdown?

Hi , is there any one having problem as I did, my computer could not shutdown properly and all USB ports will not working if I have installed AI Suite III

But if I uninstall the AI suite III, everything will work fine, I could able to shutdown and reboot computer properly, all USB could function well.

Once I have reinstalled AI suite III, same things happened again, unable to shutdown and USB not function, except if I open AI Suite and change the Energy profile, once I have changed it, everything will back to normal.
Funny is, those symptoms will be occurred again later.

And I noticed that every time I changed the energy profile in AI Suite, there will be an error of ACPI in Windows Event log.

I reported this problem to Asus, but seems they don't want to follow up it.

Could anyone help me?

What I did for testing was a clean installed Windows 10 1511 and installed the beta AI Suite3 on it, problems are still there.
The point is, if I don't install AI Suite 3, I don't have any ACPI errors and issues.

And ACPI error that come with AI Suite was a problem that never solved by ASUS, searching on internet for this issue, only one solution could found, ppl will tell you to just uninstall the AI Suite.

OK, maybe I should give up now, it's my fault that I didn't do my homework before I bought ASUS motherboard.

Not your fault mate, Asus is a leading manufacturer of motherboards, expecting there software to work correctly isn't much too ask imo.
AI Suite causing this problem was the last thing i expected and caused much frustration trying to track down the problem.
Don't get me wrong I'm happy with my hero viii and i understand both windows 10 and Z170 are both new,
but can't help feel disappointed with the quality assurance on the software/BIOS side of things.

Which ACPI error are you referring to? My latest clean install I did not install AI Suite 3 at all and on every reboot I get the Error 56 ACPI 5 error. In fact it is the first error on my log when I first installed windows and booted up.

I also incorrectly assumed the ACPI error was causing system lock ups. After boosting SA and VCCO voltage to 1.23 and 1.20 I have had zero system lock ups in days.

The bios side of things is good, ai suite on the other hand I'm sure you'll get mixed emotions on that. I used ai suite for about a week when I first built mine a few years ago then I uninstalled it to never be installed again. The only reason I don't use ai suite is it doesn't give cpu core temps.

Some people use it soley for fan xpert.

I have no negative responses for Asus motherboards I own two and haven't had a problem with either one.

Hi Nate152,

Yes I think so, Asus hardware is good, that's the reason why I also bought display card from Asus too. But their software is sucks, please fire the whole software team and hire a new one.

Thanks Sandbagger, I will try to increase the voltage to see it will be fixed or not tonight.

Hi Sandbagger, it didn't work out, I increased the voltages but issues are still there (USB ports no response and Windows cannot shutdown).
The ACPI Error Event ID is 15, once it is appeared in the log, all issues come.

I have try to uninstall AI Suite 3 again, and it have fixed all the issues.

Thanks for your help anyway, I will let my computer without AI Suite 3 from now on.

I have updated bios today to 1102 version from 802. Have to see will it help. Decided to drop overclocking too for a while to see if it helps stability. So far so good, no problems yet.

Just stopped by to say the beta AI Suite III (1.01.28) fixed the USB and shutdown/sleep issues on my VIII Hero. I'm running BIOS 1001 and Windows 10 64bit. Registry clean wasn't necessary, just a straight uninstall and install. Hope you guys get yours working soon.

Edit: I actually still have an issue where waking from sleep is hit and miss, so not quite home free yet. When it doesn't work, things light up on my keyboard, but the machine doesn't actually wake. Only option then is to hit the power switch, which boots up as if the machine was powered off.

Try this:

  • Power Options
  • Choose what power buttons do
  • Then disable this: Turn on fast startup

Was making issues for me in Windows 10.
