Gene VIII + Windows 10 64bit + AI suite III = USB not working and cannot shutdown?

Hi , is there any one having problem as I did, my computer could not shutdown properly and all USB ports will not working if I have installed AI Suite III

But if I uninstall the AI suite III, everything will work fine, I could able to shutdown and reboot computer properly, all USB could function well.

Once I have reinstalled AI suite III, same things happened again, unable to shutdown and USB not function, except if I open AI Suite and change the Energy profile, once I have changed it, everything will back to normal.
Funny is, those symptoms will be occurred again later.

And I noticed that every time I changed the energy profile in AI Suite, there will be an error of ACPI in Windows Event log.

I reported this problem to Asus, but seems they don't want to follow up it.

Could anyone help me?

I also am still seeing trouble with USB devices after installing the new Beta version of AI Suite 3. This is beginning to seriously get on my nerves. How is it possible that something as fundamental as recognising USB devices can be broken for such a long time?
Also, in case of the USB devices no longer being recognised Windows 10 hangs upon reboot/shutdown and I have to reset.

while I read all this I think I'll stay away from the AI Suite although I originally wanted to use it.
is there a way of installing only the Fan control application error free?

also is it possible to reduce the case fans minimum speed to under 60% on the VIII Gene?
even at manual scheme it doesn't go below that for me, bios version is 1102.

Hi Sahafiec, please be aware of Speedfan, since many people found tha it contains Virus inside. I am not gonna take that risk.
I think I will uninstall the AI Suite 3 and leave my computer noisy, that's the only way to avoid issues.

Hi Jaw_AT, did you try to change AI suite power profile from current one to others? it will temporary fix the USB problem. USB issue is related to system freeze, if you found your computer frozen, just change the profile once, it will be fixed.

I have seen that Norton will warn and remove Speedfan, but I always take it off the quarantine list and use it. I have used Speedfan for years and if there is a virus it has been completely undetectable on my system. I would suggest it is downloaded directly from his webpage.

I find that Speedfan is way better than Fan Xpert but it is not the most intuitive interface so you will have to spend a little time learning it. The best features allow you to set fan controls with multiple temps. My side fan is linked to GPU temp and my Samsung 950 Pro temp. I have a fan curve set for both of them. Fan Xpert only allows CPU temp as your variable. He is also quick to make changes and updates. I opened a ticket and requested the Hero VIII Z170 be added as Speedfan did not work with the Z170 boards and he released beta 4 and on top of that I can see my Samsung 950 Pro temp. Every other program I have seen with that temp monitor charges a fee.

Yes, I have tried that, upon changing the power profile my USB ports magically come to life again.
Has anyone reported this major issue to ASUS by the way? This needs to be fixed ASAP.

I already informed ASUS nearly 2 months ago, they keep telling me they will look into it, but problems are still here after two months. I am very disappointed.

And with the new version of Windows 10 1511 and BIOS 1202, I encountered more problems, SSD could not be awakened from sleep, same case as USB problem, just need to change AI suite power profile once in order to make it work again.

I have same issue . The power can not auto turn off when I shutdown in Windows10 .

Hi Mugen,

I understand your frustration with the issue, but our engineers have been working around the clock to try and find a solution. They already tested on the Gene with same BIOS that you have reported and they aren't able to replicate the issues.

For all others that are still having issues with the newest version of AI Suite 3 (1.01.28), please do PM me directly with more details so I can report all the issues to our software team.

You can find the link to the newest beta version under the support tab and under utilities:
https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/MAXIMUS-VIII-GENE/HelpDesk_Download/

*We have received reports from users that this version has fixed the CPU load issue.

If you have previously installed older versions of AI Suite 3 and having shutdown issues or USB issues, we recommend trying to clean up the registry before reinstalling the newest version. You can try using a software like CC Cleaner (www.ccleaner.com) to clean the registry.

Thank you all of your help!
Bahz

Bahz, before installing the new AI3, should i uninstall the previous version and then use registry cleaner? Should i clear cmos or return bios to default settings before installing this new AI3?

Although i can use my Computer quite normally, still experience weird crashes sometimes usually during Windows startup (memory management bsod) and often as described Computer wont shut down completely. Im not sure what to blame, Windows 10, samsung ssd drivers or z170 but its still annoying.

And Bahz, have you engineer tried to replicate the issue using ssd drives? I have a feeling it could have something to do with it.
