Gene Hero POST CODE 55 - Gskill issue?

Topic Typo, didn't mean to put "Gene" in the topic. The MB is a Maximus VIII Hero".

My 6700K landed today to complete my build. Turning on the machine hangs at code 55 - Memory Not Installed. If I remove the Memory, I get the normal "Missing Memory beep" error 53. I have tried inserting the memory one stick at a time into DIMM_A2 and then tried pairs in DIMM_A2 DIMM_B2. No luck. I pressed MEM_OK, the system shut down and started back up with the yellow DRAM_LED light flashing, but it never completes.

I am using:

G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4-25600) F4-3200C16Q-32GVK

Before I remove the CPU and inspect pins, I'm going to try that first. I'm scared of making a mistake or making things worse. Plus I don't have much of my Arctic Silver left. If the 16GB kit does not work, I'll dig deeper into the CPU inspection.

If loosening your waterblock a touch doesn't help, remove your waterblock and cpu and inspect the cpu socket for any bent or misaligned pins. Use a magnifying glass in good light, look close and carefully.

Natel152 Thank you so much!!! I had Q Code 55 with the following setup and found that I had indeed over-tightened my CPU cooler. As soon as I reinstalled with much less torque, everything ran perfect.

Ok sounds good but if one stick is not booting at default settings now I doubt you will have any luck with new ram tomorrow.

You don't need much arctic silver thermal compound. A dab about the size of a small pea is all you need. There are 2 ways to apply the thermal compound.

1) The dot method - Add a dab the size of a small pea in the center of the cpu and install your waterblock.

2) The spread method - Add a dab the size of a small pea in the center of the cpu and spread it evenly over the entire cpu using a credit card or drivers license. It is important it is a thin even layer.

Be sure to clean your cpu and waterblock thoroughly before applying new thermal compound.

Give us an update tomorrow after trying your new ram and inspecting the cpu socket if need be. Don't be scared, be cautious. Take your time and be gentle uninstalling/installing your cpu.

I tried the 16GB kit, no love. I then started inserting DIMMs in any slot to see if it would post. Interestingly enough, it would post with DIMMs inserted into DIMM_B1 or DIMM_B2, which is against the recommended memory configurations. At this point, I removed the CPU cooler (which was on just "snug" not "OMFGsquished!") and CPU and inspected the MB Pins. Everything looked fine. So bit the bullet and swapped it for the second Hero board I had here for a second system, and it worked fine.

TL;DR - Bad motherboard, DIMM_A1 DIMM_A2 DOA - The G.Skill F4-3200C16Q-32GVK kit works fine.

One last question, for a AIO Water cooler, should the CPU pump be attached to CPU_FAN or CPU_OPT? Then should I attach the fans for the AIO radiator to the other?

I have the 32 GB kit you have on a Hero 8 running at rated speed with a 6600k, I purchased it because the 3600mhz kits are way to expensive and was prepared to run 2 sticks but all 4 work beautifully for 32Gb at XMP settings 3200mhz, waiting for a 6700k myself

Ozy if you haven't RMA'd yet I may have a possible solution to try, as you probably have exhausted all solutions at this point.

So I had a very similar situation as you did, my ram was the gskill ripjaws v 3000 variant, and it looks like you have the cooler master cpu cooler (nepton?). If so I have the nepton in my current build as well.

I was getting the code 55 no matter what I tried, I thought it may have been a bad motherboard/ram scenario. I stumbled upon some recommendation online. What you should check are the four metal standoffs that secure the cooler bracket to the back of the motherboard. Inspect the metal standoffs and notice how on one side is bare metal, and on the other is some type of black coating material on the other side. What you want to do is make the black coated side is face down on the motherboard (im guessing this is what tells the motherboard you have a secure connection when they are tightened down).

In my build, 3 out of the 4 standoffs were incorrectly placed. Once I flipped them all the right way and replaced the cooler, the PC booted up! The funny thing is, cooler master does not mention this in their instructions. Hope this may help.

😞 i have this problem with 2 x 8 gskill ripjaws 4 3000, tried everything and no joy, code 55 all the time what ever i try, this is on a hero viii board, please help.
