Formula VIII - WATERCOOLED @ 5GHz

Hi all - Just [almost!!] finished my latest build - Thought I'd post a few pics on the ASUS ROG forum.

6700K @ 5Ghz [1.43v]
Corsair [4x 8GB 3200]
Corsair 1500AXi
Samsung 950 PRO 512GB
Samsung 850 PRO 1TB
EVGA 980Ti Classified x2
Aquacomputer 6XT
Caselabs SMA8
Bitspower 'Silver Shining' Fittings throughout
Bitspower 16mm acrylic hardline
... and 4.5L of coolant....:cool:

Build is not quite 100% complete as I need to finalise my lighting setup but it is complete enough for testing of the hardware.

It was a bit tricky trying to get the green UV reactive coolant looking correct in the shots. It is quite a bit more vibrant in person.

I'll probably run at 4.8 at lower Vcore for day to day running.

The CPU overclock was the easy bit but I had a bit of trouble with memory - I am using 2 of the same but separately packaged 16GB kits which is not necessarily an optimal choice.:).

Not so much of an issue on a dual channel board but I had issues with getting the Formula VII to boot even on default XMP settings with both kits installed.

Tried the usually tweaks to VCCSA VCCIO etc but ended up using Maximus Tweak Mode 1 and manual settings for timings.

Have tested the memory using Raja's favourite - Stressapptest in Linux and the sticks seem to be behaving themselves after a number of hours stress testing.

A little bit OT question:

Does adding the VRM (since its an option for M8F) in the Custom loop will help attain higher stable OC?
Got the my M8F board and I'm preparing the setup, and I'm my plan is to use the passive mode for the VRM. Saw in some forum that this is just for looks?
Hope someone can enlighten me on this. Thanks in advance!

It is predominately just for looks...!

However I do notice that the heat generated by the VRM's does soak into the board which is adjacent the CPU socket.

So some heat would be added to the overall heat load for the CPU. I have had the VRM's (not water cooled) on my Hero VII attain fairly highish temps eg 75C etc. While OK as far as the actual VRM components are concerned, the board is obviously getting toasty around that area which is close to the CPU.

Probably would only be real cause for concern if running everything aircooled and with only very little airflow around those components.

Just a couple of 'lights out' shots now that the UV lighting is installed...

Looks way better in person as the camera does not like reproducing UV light illumination all too well (had to use my Samsung S5 phone) - but you get a general idea from these shots...:cool:
