Fans continue spinning for 4-7 minutes after shutdown or sleep, Z170 Pro Gaming

After shutting down or putting the computer to sleep, the fans continue to spin for a long time (4-7 minutes) before turning off. In the case of sleeping, the power light on my case begins to flash at the same time that the fans power down. Note, this is not the same issue as those who have reported their fans continue to spin indefinitely.

Incidentally, my machine also takes a very long time to awake from sleep (4-5 minutes) or sometimes fails and simply resets or restarts. The problem existed before modifying the CPU voltage and is not affected by switching the RAM between auto and XMP.

I've determined that the problem is caused by changing the BIOS SATA setting to RAID. The problem goes away when the setting is returned to AHCI.

I'm pretty sure the driver I have is up-to-date (Intel Chipset Driver V10.1.1.13). I think I also had a problem with this controller or its driver because a HDD would disappear or fail to wake when resuming from sleep and would only come back after restarting or scanning for new hardware in Windows Device Manager. Moving the drive off that controller to a PCI-E SATA expansion card fixed the problem. My RAID 0 HDD were indentified as an SSD as well.

I'll see if I can move my RAID to that expansion card but Intel or ASUS should still probably fix this stuff so it doesn't cause customers such a headache. Edit: I can't move the RAID to the expansion card because it doesn't support RAID. It looks like I'll have to use software RAID unless I can find a way to make the RAID setting function properly in BIOS.

The problem only occurs when SATA mode is set to RAID and the OCZ Vertex 2 SSD, 60 GB is plugged in. The OCZ Vertex 2 SSD causes no problems in AHCI mode but it was the system drive in my old machine with was set to RAID mode. Reformatting the drive made no difference. I have side-stepped the problem by connecting the drive to a PCI-E SATA expansion card but the root of the problem remains unsolved.
