Deamon Toons Pro Standard key blocked?

I just picked up the Maximus VIII Hero board the other day, which comes with Deamon Tools Pro Standard on the disk. Which I thought was pretty cool, since I've been using the free version of Deamon Tools for a while. But when I try to install and actrivate it, I get the message that the license key has been blocked. I tried downloading the program from Asus's site, but I get the exact same problem when I try to install that one.

Has anyone else had this issue or know what can be done about it?

Hello Gryfalcon

Welcome to the ROG forum.

Did you try uninstalling the free version? If you have and it's still telling you the key is blocked, install CCleaner it's a free registry cleaning program.

Run it and try installing it again, make sure you click on registry.

Yes, I had the issue trying to activate it. It seems like DiscSoft have blackisted the OEM key they gave Asus (presumably because it was posted online). You'll have to register your details including motherboard serial number on the Asus site, then lodge a ticket about it. They'll send you a new copy of the installer with a different key.

I just tried uninstalling the free version, but it made no difference, I still got the blocked license message. The message is coming up when it tries to activate the key online, so I don't think it's an issue on my end.

Thanks for the reply Exogorth, I'll try that next.

Just an update. After going back and forth with Tech Support, I finally got it escalated and got a link to a version with a working license key, but it did take a while.

Then, after installing and activating it, trying to run it results in a crash on startup, with the "Problem Event Name BEX64" on the application DTAgent.exe.

Manually trying to run Daemon Tool instead results in the error message "The application was unable to start correctly 0xc0000005".

So, in the end, I've now reverted back to the older, free version of Daemon Tools Lite I had been using before. 😕

Damn, that sucks. I had to do the same endless back and forth to get my key, but it worked fine once installed. You could try DT's support forum I guess, but I suspect they don't exert a lot of effort for volume license users.
