CPU Cooler for Maximux VIII Formula

I'm doing my first Z-170 build with a Maximums Formula VIII mobo. I'm planning on using an i5-6600k (slight overclocking planned). What I'm struggling with the CPU cooler.

I have a tower unit (vertical mount of the board). Most Air based CPU coolers I've looked at have heat pipes which lead away from the CPU into fin/fan assembly.

Would this type of CPU cooler work with a vertically mounted motherboard (as the heat pipes would be running horizontal)?
Seems all I can find on air based coolers is 99% of them contain heat pipes of one kine or another working 'up' into the fins / fan assembly.

I cannot find any air based coolers having a 90 degree bend so the heat pipes could be mounted in an 'upward' direction.

What should I be looking for in CPU cooler for the Maximus VIII Formula mobo? Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Kraken X41 from NZXT will look nice and do the job. And you can change color on the pump led 😛
Anyway, if you want to OC (usually to 4.5 ... 4.7GHz) water cooler is the best cooling system.

Thanks. However, I'm looking for an air-cooled solution.

Anyone have an opinion regarding an air-cooled CPU cooler with a vertically mounted Formula VIII?

Check this one if it suits your case/mainboard combo:

Noctua does a good job in air cooled area.

Now that looks like it might work... Mounted so the heat pipes start off 'down', and the bend points up... gravity can then pull the liquid to the bottom. Wonder if there's enough liquid to fill back up into the plate in contact with the CPU.

I'll contact Noctua. Thanks for the suggestion!

Noctua makes the best air cpu coolers.

If your case supports 165mm (height) cpu coolers the DH-15 is the top dog. With the 4770k overclocked to 4.2GHz the DH-15 beats the corsair H110 by 1 degree in this review.
