I am running on the Maximus VIII hero alpha. In regards to the specter/meltdown security issue,
if I update my management engine driver and run the update tool, am I safe with 3504 BIOS, or am I not fully
safe until ASUS releases the 3703 BIOS?

I would run the Intel-SA-00086 Detection Tool and check to be safe.. I was just reading another post a guy did the MEI and Tool and then 3703 and shows as vulnerable again.. The bios might not have anything to do with the other and have to apply the fix again.. If you have the MEI chipset 11.7.0.1040 you should not have to install that again but yes you might have to install the ME Tool.. Sorry I see now we have diff mobos- download what you need for your mobos.. I would run the detection tool before and after so you know for sure..

Is MEI chipset 11.7.0.1040 the latest version to install in Windows?

After running this Detection Tool, it makes me wonder if I should still install some Win7 patches... Hmm

I saw these listed for Win7

Windows 7 SP1 and Server 2008 R2 SP1 — KB4056897 (Security only, issued 1/3/18)
Windows 7 SP1 and Server 2008 R2 SP1 — KB4056894 (Monthly rollup, issued 1/4/18)

@Nanolab - That Intel ME firmware inside the UEFI/BIOS 11.6.10.1196 is outdated. Why that was not updated is another story. You will need to update the Intel ME firmware version to 11.8.50.3425 for the Asus Maximus VIII Hero board. Here is the details from Intel (scroll down till you see the charts with the generation of CPU then look right for the recommended version

ezeht is right, you're gonna have to update it. Leave your Intel ME driver version alone, it is fine or you can update that again to driver version 11.7.0.1057. But important is to update that old ME firmware in the UEFI/BIOS 3703.

I ran the tool, I have ME-version 11.8.50.3399 so it looks updated. It shows no vulnerability. I'm running a insider build though, could be it contains the newer ME inside.
R9 7950X - ASUS X670E Crosshair Extreme (bios 0803) - 32GB HyperX Fury Beast @6200c32 - Corsair H150i Pro - ASUS RTX3080 TUF OC V2 - Phanteks P400A - Corsair RM850 - WD SN850

Thanks for your help !

I ran ME Update tool and everything's good so far. Intel-SA00086 report system safe with ME version 11.8.50.3399.

THANKS Asus.
The file is already correct and everything works OK, I have not personally had to install AI Suite III 3.00.13 DIP5 1.05.13, with the latest version that appears in utilities everything works correctly ... at the moment ... 😄

For my part THANK YOU to all the users of the thread that with their research and checks have helped to clarify this issue regardless of the country we are or color we have.

Also say that the effect of ON-OFF-ON after turning on the power supply and starting the PC is the new norm apparently, because what is certain is that now my PC takes very few seconds until the desktop appears, with the Bios 3401 took a long time to load the Bios.

It works on my HeroVIII too.
As for the performance of the Samsung M.2, it works just as well for me there is a minimum variation but it can also be done from time to time.
As for the flicker that happens in games I have not tried it yet.
I leave you some screenshots of the M.2 Samsung SM961, judge yourselves:
