Bios 3007

Bios 3007 is being uploaded to various Z170 boards. There's a hero specific thread but I thought a general thread might be better for all.
Will update my Ranger VIII now.

Notes are as follows:
Improve system stability
That's right, how could you ask for more details than that 😛

So what is this bug in the 3007 bios ?....I updated to it a few days ago and have not encountered any problems with my system , My overclock is working fine , Memory XMP is working normal , voltages look normal , boot times normal .

Now way to know. The only fact we have is that it was released for a couple boards, ASUS found something that was problematic enough to pull it.

This is also a problem with marginal release notes. When ASUS reports "improves system stability", that could mean almost anything. Some say "if you have no problems don't update". What if the problem is voltage regulation and the board hits the ram with 2.0V for 10 minutes every 8 hours? Or the CPU with 1.92 on startup so it can't be monitored? You didn't notice an issue but the issue was there. All you can know as the user is something is not as stable as it could be... maybe you just haven't experienced it yet.

This Hit the nail on the head for me , thinking of it this way was enough to get me to flash back to previous bios.

But they haven't pulled it off for Maximus VIII Ranger yet. And I can say (keeping my fingers crossed) that I am generally satisfied with the new BIOS performance - a few seconds more shaved off the system startup time (perhaps due to changes in the default settings) and my system is running as smoothly as ever.

So either this BIOS has no problems with the Ranger MB or ASUS simply do not care about the Ranger owners (which, hopefully, is not case).

I have seen a couple of posts at Tom's Hardware, boards were broken after updating to BIOS to 3007. The boards were Z170-A and ASUS Rampage and Maximus Hero VIII.

Others have posted that there are settings missing in this BIOS, causing the systems to be broken or non responsive. Attempt to Flash the BIOS to 2202 with Flashback was not possible. The system died. Those with broken boards have RMA their boards, but very strange that ASUS haven't informed about the issues with the BIOS version. I have mailed ASUS since 5 days, but no reaction. ASUS is just silent and will not answer. Very strange for a company like ASUS just to shut the door and not saying anything.

Hey everyone, first post here, so, hi. Registered here to see if I was the only one having issues with 3007. Guess not 🙂

Dannyboy - the symptoms in my case were a system that wouldn't cold POST unless I dropped the memory speed right back. This was despite using exactly the same (mildly overclocked) settings that had been running with 100% stability on previous BIOSes since I set the system up in September.

If I could get it into the OS it seemed to run and benchmark alright, but getting that far was a right pain - that usually involved a few boot loops, the system POSTing in Safe Mode and then reinputting the faster settings. Oh and then a few more POST loops. It felt like having a G*g*b*t* board all over again 😄 The debug display was hanging at 0x55 most often, with the occasional 49, and regular loops in which it would cycle between 01 and 03 without going any further

I didn't do a huge amount of troubleshooting prior to flashing back to 2202 but despite playing around quite a bit with the memory timings/XMP, voltages, Maximus Tweak settings and more, there was just no way I could get it to run stably at previously attainable speeds. Dropping the memory speed (down to 2440MHz from 3260) got it cold POSTing consistently - but with an obvious perf hit. Given that it seemed to run stably once in the OS, experience here seems to suggest that the bug is in the memory initialisation/checking. However with so many different combinations of hardware out there, mileages may well vary. Hope the next one's a bit more usable 🙂

After so many complaints about this BIOS, I took the time to check the latest BIOS versions posted for all of the Maximus VIII motherboads that I could find on the Asus site. Strangely, out of 8 boards, Ranger is the only one for which 3007 is still listed on the page.

So I am curious to know if somebody with a Ranger board has faced stability issues so far. In the other thread for Maximus VIII Hero someone complained that his board has died after working 5 days without problems. I flashed my BIOS a week ago, nothing unusual so far and I do not plan to roll back to 2202 yet but a few complaints from people with my MB may make me reconsider.

Asus removed the BIOS for a reason. It has issues. I've read that boards were bricked after updating to 3007 BIOS.

Some settings are missing in the 3007 BIOS. Other settings are changed from default settings to secondary settings.

And the fact that ASUS doesn't answer email about why they removed the BIOS, made me suspicious, and thursday I went back to 2202. Just to be safe. Don't want to see my system bricked because of a bad BIOS.

ASUS has to come up with when and why they decided to remove the BIOS. You can question why ASUS uses the no comment policy.
Merry Christmas!
