Asus Z170P USB 3.0 driver issue

Hi I'm hoping someone can help, around a year ago I built my first rig using the Z170-P DDR4 motherboard and knew it came with USB 3.0 and assumed it would be automatically enabled. I discovered the AI Suite a few weeks back had a tab for USB 3.0 and thought id have a look, turns out I've never had 3.0 on as it tells me to 'Re-install the ASUS USB 3.0 Boost from your motherboard's bundled support DVD when you upgraded your operating system'.

Trouble is when I insert the DVD and try to install the USB 3.0 driver I get an error message saying the 'ASMedia Host Controller was not found' and it will not go any further with the driver installation.

Anyone else had this issue or able to help at all?

Thanks.

The USB 3.0 ports on the Z170-P are from the Intel chipset. That's why.

Look inside Device Manager and see if there are any unknown devices. If none, then your USB 3.0 ports are probably working fine. Have you ever tried using them by plugging in a USB pendrive?

Hi thanks for the reply, I checked under device manager and they are all there with none of them saying unknown. Yes I have tried a pen drive in them and found copying a couple of GB to take quite a bit of time from my SSD to the pendrive, which is 3.0 compatible, which I another reason I looked into the 3.0 part of the motherboard.

It says in the Ai suite that there is a 3.0 Boost option but it requires the DvD drivers, could there be anything I'm missing that id need? Have you or anyone else come across needing this asmedia controller its asking for?

Thanks.

then you don't need to install any other Asus software/driver. Win 10 comes with built in UASP drivers, which is essentially what USB 3.0 Boost is.

So with Win 10 the USB 3.0 ports will be working but I just won't be able to use the USB boost tab in the AI suite?

With Win 10 the USB 3.0 ports will be working AND also "boosted", without the need to install any Asus USB Boost software, as the "boost" driver is built into Win 10.
