Asus Maximus VIII Error 55, No Memory Installed.

I’m having an issue with random Error 55 codes on boot ups. The computer will run fine for a couple days, and even start up fine from a full shutdown and restart with no errors. Then every once in a while I’ll get the error code 55, no memory installed. I’ll restart and get overclock failed, reset it and it will run fine again for a period of time.

The timings and voltage all look fine and match the memory tested latency and voltage. I have also run Memtest86 with no errors. I ran each module alone, and all 4 stick seated. Each time with 1 pass, it had no errors. I have even reseated and selected a lower clock speed for the memory. I ran Prime95 for a good 5 hours and no errors. Is there something I’m missing? Faulty MB? Do I need to adjust voltage beyond specified specs? I’m not even sure what voltage to start at. Stock is 1.35v.

I contacted Corsair and they said with memtest86 having no errors, I would need to contact Asus for tech support. I would really hate to RMA the MB. Anyone have any ideas? I’ve seen other post with similar issues. Maybe it’s a firmware issue that Asus is working on.

Thanks in advance for any advice/info!

Is the motherboard running the latest BIOS? If not, I would update it to the latest revision.

Unfortunately, DDR4 3333 isn't plug-n-play and usually requires manual tweaking to achieve stability. The two voltages that you need to tweak are SA and VCCIO. Also Memtest86 is useless on this platform. HCI Memtest is a better option and if you have a copy of Linux, the Google Stress App is the best.

The motherboard is running the latest BIOS version. Ill take a look and mess with the voltages. I've never changed voltages for Ram before, any tips going forward? I dont want to fry anything.

Thanks!

Hello MaKo82

Try setting the vccio voltage to 1.15v, then set the cpu system agent voltage to 1.15v, if it still doesn't want to go raise the cpu system agent voltage to 1.20v and up to 1.25v if needed. You can take the cpu system agent voltage up to 1.30v but try it at lower voltages first.

Awesome! I'll try that out and see how it goes. Appreciate the help!

So I checked the voltages in the BIOS and they are set as follows...

CPU Core/Cache Voltage 1.392v
Voltage set to offset (should this be set to manual? Auto/Manual/offset/Adaptive are the options)
DRAM Voltage 1.344v
VCCIO 1.224v
SA 1.224v
PCG1.008v

Should I raise both SA and VCCIO to 1.25v and go from there? and not higher than 1.30v? Its running at 3200Mhz at the moment. Again, thanks for the help. The Ram voltages are a new thing to me.

Thanks!

So I adjusted the voltage for SA and VCCIO, SA to 1.30v and VCCIO 1.25v and still wasnt able to get the memory to post at 3333mhz. Its running fine right now at 3200mhz with SA at 1.25v and VCCIO at 1.20v. Not sure what is going on.

Also CPUZ shows the memory running at 1600mhz, while the task manager performance tab shows it running at 3200mhz. not sure what that is about.
