6700k high vcore?

Hi all,

Hero VIII with 6700k - when playing The Division I had HWMonitor open

Checking the VCORE it was going up to 1.42

I think this is too high? (the cpu is not overclocked)

Is this correct? What can I do?

Cheers

Hi spluff

You can lower the cpu voltage, on the extreme tweaker tab set the ai overclock tuner to manual then scroll down to cpu core/cache voltage and enter in "cpu core voltage override" 1.35v. If it's still stable keep lowering it .01v until it becomes unstable then bring it back up .01v - .02v.

let me know what voltage you end up with. 🙂

OK cheers Nate does lowering it this way though lock it into the same voltage even if the CPU is idle and underclocked?

Would prefer if it didn't lock it higher all the time if possible....

To get the cpu voltage to throttle at idle you'll want to switch the cpu core/cache voltage to adaptive and enter in the lowest stable voltage, using adaptive mode with the windows power plan set to balanced will throttle the cpu to .700v - .800v at idle.

Just wondering is it normal for the 6700k to be at 1.42V on auto mode when gaming (no overclocking) or is there something wrong with my system

No it is not normal, the vcore should be much lower, same was for me until I did not check and disable automatic overclocking (turbo mode which was activated automatically
after BIOS update) , unfortunately I don't remember the exact menus to guide you but you can find this info on the internet

Unfortunately It can be normal, depending on 6700K silicon quality, default factory turbo Vcore goes from +-1.28V up to 1.42V.
You can but a 6700K and get any turbo Vcore in that range.

If you run with bios default settings, try to disable "Asus multicore enhancemente", I think it lowers turbo Vcore 0.05V.
Another option could be to _try_ OC the cpu to 4.5GHz or more and keep the default 1.4V Vcore.

All cpu's aren't created equal, at default/auto settings with the windows power plan set to high performance my cpu draws 1.44v, if and when you start overclocking it you'll get a better idea how good of a cpu you got.

I consider my 6700k average at best, I can game at 4.8GHz with 1.50v - 1.52v.

There's nothing wrong with your system. 🙂

are you sure it was at 1.42V Vcore at 4GHz standard turbo boost? this is highly unlikely.

Make sure you're running the latest BIOS for your motherboard.
