2202 Bios

Carbonicdk
Level 8
The Maximus VIII Ranger just got a 2202 bios to download on the Danish Asus site. It's not on the US one but I'm guessing they are in the progress of doing so.
https://www.asus.com/dk/Motherboards/MAXIMUS-VIII-RANGER/HelpDesk_Download/

Updates are as follows:

MAXIMUS VIII RANGER BIOS 2202
1.CPU uCode update
2.Support more PCIe-1394 devices.

So not so vague notes as usually 🙂

Hi there people,

This new version is also a bugged one for me. Since 1701 my XMP detection is totally broken. And I'm starting to give up on bios updates. I've tried everything and there's no way I could enable XMP on my Kingston 2400mhz. Only downgrading to 1701 or below works like a charm.

I'm glad I saw this before installing. I just went from 1701 to 2202 and I cannot boot if I enable XMP. I also have Kingston 2400 ram (Savage)

If I don't enable the XMP profile it's fine. Guess I'll go back down to 1701.

Since this updates Kaby Lake microcode, can we assume that the newer processors will be supported? Looking to upgrade to a 7700k on the Z170 Hero board when they come out.

At least, is good to see I'm not the only with Kingston 2400 ram with XMP trouble. I have your exact same error.

For everyone with the xmp problem... can you guys set it to xmp and then go to Extreme Tweaker -> DRAM Timing Control to check if Maximus Tweak is on Mode 1? Set it to Mode 1 if it is on Auto or Mode 2 (mode 2 heavily overclocks secondary timings WHICH IS BAD)
Also I recommend playing with the MRC Fast Boot setting which might be the problem OR could solve the problem (because it is training the ram). You should see it after scolling down all the way in the DRAM Timing Control menu.

I am using the Kingston Savage 2666mhz with xmp and it always failed to boot or gave me "overclocking failed" on Mode 2

I've just tried what you explained, and no luck for me. It gets stuck on post code 32, and I have to manually reboot with Mem-OK! button. So, no XMP for me. Thanks anyway.

Hey there, xator.
Yeah, I had the exact same thing happen... again... with my 2800 Ripjaw V kit. XMP immediately put it in a q-code 41 bootloop, and rolling it back to 1701 had, once again, fixed the issue.

However...
I purchased a kit of TridentZ 3200, updated to 2202, and wouldn't you know it?

A MIRACLE happened.

XMP enabled flawlessly, and has been rock-solid stable for a few days of heavy use/gaming. No issues whatsoever.
Until ASUS takes a look into the issue with certain lower speed kits, I doubt this is probably going to get resolved anytime soon (1701 came out, I believe, on 3/16 - So nothing in over 6 months).

Good luck. I know how frustrating this can be.

I appreciate the condolences. But DDR4 sticks are way to expensive now for me to get new ones. And I hate having to dispose HW that is actually working. It is a matter for ASUS to fix ASAP. It's been 3 bioses wrong now. 1902, 2001 and 2202, and some users are dealing with this error since 2016/07/25 on which date 1902 bios was released. So please, ASUS, put yourself together and fix this, we haven't been able to update our systems for too long now (6 months by now).:(:(

I tried to update via internet/dhcp but latest bios what was found was 1902, so i downloaded it to usb stick this new 2202 and flashed it. Q-fan auto-calibration does not work for me anymore in bios, after it has calibrated all fans and i press ok it just freezes and stops responding and i cannot save the new settings. Otherwise it works normally. Any suggestions what might cause this? Or how to fix it? For now i write down the changes calibratio n made and entered them manually after reboot. That worked.

Hi I have too problem with my XMP on the Corsair CMD32GX4M4A2400C14 :(
p.s without XMP im stable

When you initially set the XMP profile and it prompts you if you want to use the ASUS timings (OK) or the Intel timings (Cancel) which do you accept? I tried with both and had the same result of my computer failing to boot (it locks up when I exit the BIOS)

I'll check the DRAM timing control thing later tonight when I get home.

I tried both to see what it does but I think I always ended up with "No" (for intel) because I did not notice any changes anywhere. I never had any problems with that so I recommend just pressing No.

XMP Issues, since I bought my M8H I have noticed that my display is flickering or blinking using On-Board Video, but it solves when I use XMP Profile.

Will this be a serious issue? or anyone here experienced the same with this update?

This issue didn't solve til my last update of BIOS 1902.

Where can I find the 2202 for the Maximus VIII Extreme. The latest Firmware I have found is 1902.
