Which chip overclocks easier???

Currently I have a 5930K at 4.5 Ghz. But It is not the most stable and I am still trying to tweak it so that it is but I am still learning how to overclock CPUs. I was wondering if a 5960X is easier and more stable at 4.5 ghz than a 5930K. The difference in price is not a concern. I would sell my 5930 and just buy a 5960. I originally bought the 5930 because of the higher clock speed figuring that it would be easier to get it to 4.5 or so. I primarily am looking for a gaming rig.

Any opinions or advice will be appreciated.

Thanks

It depends on the individual CPU, but the 5960X would either be on par with the 5930k, OR have less of an OC headroom due to the extra 2 cores. Read this review HERE, which compares the 3 Haswell-E CPU's, and the cheap 5820k OC's better than all of them.

By the way, many new games are GPU dependent, so the old days of high CPU OC = higher FPS is no longer relevant (especially over 4Ghz). You'd get a lot more performance OC'ing your GPU's. I would just leave it at 4.2 to 4.4Ghz max. 4.5Ghz+ requires significantly more volts, and you won't notice any real-world difference.

I am running my 5930 at 4.4 and my chip is exactly like what Techotic said. To push it further to 4.5 requires a whole lot more juice to be stable or in an alternative to disable or lower a few other cores. At the end I conclude it is not worth it.

While most if not all older games 4GHz+ is more than enough. I picked up this latest title Dying Light and in certain scenes the a single core can reach 100% usage.

It all depends on the CPU's quality. You might find that a 5960X can overclocked better than a 5930K or vice versa.
