Hi, I recently got a strix x99 to replace my msi x99 board where the chipset decided to short its vcc pins plus the 3.3v standby, so dead board. Everything went fine got all the stuff plugged back on the new mobo but it wouldnt boot, gave a error 53 and thats it.
I tried all the slots (the main ones A1, B1, C1, D1 as the others are in parallel basically just a "chip select" line) but nothing worked, even tried a 2666MHz kit to no avail, mashed the MemOk! button and let it blink out to a not new to me error 53.
Now I've been playing with x99 stuff alot, got plenty of chinese x99 boards and servers (R630, R730) and decided to try RDIMMs that didnt post on my msi board being 1xR4 and not 2xR8 and somehow the asus board booted just fine. These are 2133 MHz sticks running at 2400MHz 12-13-13-28 CR1 TRFC 240 at 1.35v
I was able to run them at 2800MHz but now the board refuses, goes to B0 B1 then back to B0 and 00.
CPU: 6950x, delidded, liquid metal, custom water, 4.4GHz at 1.38V, 1.93V Vccin LLC Level7, 3.5GHz cache at 1.2V (+0.250V offset), SA +0.300V offset, VccIO 1.1V
RAM:
3200MHz kit:
CMK32GX4M4B32000C16 VERSION 4.32 (the QVL states version 4.31, after a google search 4.31 good, 4.32 bad)
2666MHz kit:
CMK32GX4M4A2400C14 VERSION 3.20 (the QVL states version something else, im guessing same story)
RDIMMs:
Samsung M393A1G40EB1-CPB 2133MHz
BIOS:
Now heres a bit of fiddling aswell but it shouldnt be the issue, ive tried all the bios after 1701 and none worked, so I just ended up with the latest bios but modified to have the microcode removed (kept the 2015 one, removed the 2019) so spectre/meltdown protection is gone (I want my 5% perf back :D) plus the REBAR UEFI module to have functioning rebar and some options like 4G Decode and Secure boot on by default because to set the rebar u need to use a tool from windows and in the event of a bios reset having the rebar still on and 4g decode off would not boot the gpu. So in the end its the latest bios (no microcode and rebar support)
I have access to a CH341 and a few 128Mbit 25c eeproms if needed to quickly test bioses.
Mind you these ram are all working (tested on different boards)
I even tried to set default timings via the defaults in the bios in case the board was doing some "asus" things that are not so standard (oc socket, multicore enhancement, too high of standard voltages, we know....) to something like 16 18 18 36 at 2133 which any kits would easily run at but no dice, just straight 53.
Also all of these mods were done to the msi board aswell.
(I might have killed the board thru one of the usbs as its shorted to ground on one of the data lines that go to the usb on the chipset so I might have done goofed)
So uhm I would like my 3200MHz back as it was on my msi board 😞
any idea, clue, help?
Thanks in advance 🙂
