Greetings Community,

I have been having some issues with my Rampage Extreme V MB lately and have found something that doesnt seem quite right.

Could someone please enlighten me what this component does or check their board and let me know if the picture below is normal.

Had an over current issue with a defective corsair 80i water block and i am hoping it hasnt done damage i didnt know about.

But before we get ahead of ourselves, why don't you tell me what kind of issues you have been having.

Hi Chino,

Thanks for responding so promptly. Seems my fears are realised, it just didnt look right.
I have been having stability issues with various Q-Codes coming up and not being able to clear,
Codes 76 & 79,
CPU_LED on sometimes in the Q LED section,
and just general not running quite right, elevated temps but nothing to be alarmed at.

All stemmed from a over current issue that occured due to a faulty water block on a Corsair H80i closed loop system, drew excess current caused the hot melt glue in the micro usb lead to melt and damaged where it connected into the water block its self. Corsair have replace the unti via a RMA but i had hoped that it had not caused any other damage. Had usb over current message appear on the screen and then the motherboard shut down. This looks to me to be some kind of "fusable link" that has probably dropped out to prevent damage occuring to other parts of the motherboard.

I wonder what kind of support i will get from Corsair in relation to damaged caused by a faulty product of theirs?

Any thoughts.

That looks like a resettable poly fuse for OCP. The package color is often green or black, so I would not think about that too much. If they go open they will self reset when the fault condition has been removed. You can check it with a DMM - should get a low reading.

I have not looked at the supply in question, but if the fuse is open whatever it is inline with to supply will not work.

Thanks Raja,

I did actually have an over current issue with a piece of hardware, for piece of mind i would like to know if there is any relation between my Over Current Issue and that particular component. If unable to decypher what that component is used in relation too dont worry about it. I thank you very much for your input and at least putting my mind at ease.

Martin

Hi Raja,

Thank you for your input, when i mentioned fuseable link i should have thought myself about checking the continuity with a DMM. Just checked then and the link is NOT open circuit, i am reading continuity across the component. So that appears to be a good thing. Maybe the over current issue i had made the fuse operate and the colour it is now is an indication that there has been an event to cause it to operate.

If you are able to shed some light on what that specific component is used for, just for my piece of mind, that would be most apericated.

Martin

As stated above, its a resettable fuse that will self-reset. It only would have gone open if there was an issue, and you don't really know it did. The package color is not relevant to the state of the fuse as far as I am aware. Your own DMM confirms that too.

Sometimes a certain part isn't available in a given color, in such situations an alternative part with the same specs is used.

The board would only be affected (possibly) by whatever happened to your cooler if the PSU had a fault. Nothing more I can say from here - would need it all in front of me to analyze.

Hello

Both are identicle1.6A PPTC resettable fuses. The black one is made by Littelfuse and the green by TE. As Raja wrote if no resistance is measured across the leads of the fuse. minus the lead resistance, the fuse is fine.
