what is your 950 pro temp ?

my 950 pro 256 idle temp : 63°

anyone have a method to cold 950 pro m2 drive ? what is your temp after ?

Like you I had a big worry about the $400+ drive I just installed and I put a aluminum TO-220 heatsink and fan. The only real problem occurs when you reach 70C then it throttles down to 1.5GB/s.

So since I do massive voip captures and other heavy disk IO stuff I ended up getting these:

I used an exacto knive to shave off the sticker and placed it on some random plastic hulk to preserve it in the event I needed to take it back to Micro Center.

After applying the heatsinks I put one of these over it and used black tape to adhere it to the 2x12 MB power plug. Some may think the black tape is out there but I didn't use duct tape which is somewhat conductive,,, ok 25k OHMs..

This little 40mm fan at 2k rpm does the trick to keep things in check regardless, even if you have NO heatsinks:

Totally silent at 2500RPM.. It goes to 4500RPM but even so it's almost unheard.

I like a 0 RPM office where I can think and this works perfectly for less than 30bucks to protect a $400+ drive.

Yes I could easily replace it with the 2yr micro center plan which is AMAZING but it's better to be extreme and make it work!!!

What is the worst continuous test I can run to see if my 950PRO is too hot during load?

In idle I have 30°C with 20°C ambient with no modification. Heatinks are not really an option here as it is under 3 watercooled GPUs and it is a pain to remove them. I managed to slide the M.2 drive bellow the GPU an properly fit it and secure it with the screw but it was a very difficult manipulation.

I did test the drive and tried to break it using full 512GB read/writes and ATTO did just as good at heating it to 70C as you can see in my post:

My 950 is now sat in the new Dell XPS 15, it came with s pm951 and a thermal pad connecting it to the aluminum chassis, temps got up to 50 so a little work can go a long way.

My NVMe Samsung 950 Pro 512 idles at 44°C max, and reaches max temp of 77°C after 3 minutes of full load using ATTO benchmark. Temperatures are read using AIDA64. I don't have a heat sink, but I have 2 intake 120mm fans. Top fan is certainly pushing air over the M.2 slot.
Unfortunately RVE has a very bad location for the M.2 slot, USB 3.0 cable creates an obstruction of the airflow, on the other side DDR4 module, and of course the graphics card over the top, virtually fenced area around M.2 slot. I'm very sorry that positioning is not solved as on the ASUS X99-A motherboard. But I don't want to underestimate the engineering team, still RVE is a fantastic motherboard.
