Like you I had a big worry about the $400+ drive I just installed and I put a aluminum TO-220 heatsink and fan. The only real problem occurs when you reach 70C then it throttles down to 1.5GB/s.
So since I do massive voip captures and other heavy disk IO stuff I ended up getting these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/181790790169?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITI used an exacto knive to shave off the sticker and placed it on some random plastic hulk to preserve it in the event I needed to take it back to Micro Center.
After applying the heatsinks I put one of these over it and used black tape to adhere it to the 2x12 MB power plug. Some may think the black tape is out there but I didn't use duct tape which is somewhat conductive,,, ok 25k OHMs..
This little 40mm fan at 2k rpm does the trick to keep things in check regardless, even if you have NO heatsinks:

I like a 0 RPM office where I can think and this works perfectly for less than 30bucks to protect a $400+ drive.
Yes I could easily replace it with the 2yr micro center plan which is AMAZING but it's better to be extreme and make it work!!!
