RVE10 Instability? Random Shut Downs?

I've been having an issue where my PC will completely shut down. What happens is I could be in a game and it will just completely shut off. Requires me to cycle the PSU switch/clear cmos over and over or just leave it unplugged for a while and I can eventually power it back on. If I try powering it back on right after a random shut down, it will power on for 1 second and power right off.


Temps are all relatively low when it happens. Under load, CPU 40-50C's and GPU 50-60C's. It first started happening during gaming and now it is more randomly when system isn't even under heavy load (watching a YouTube video it happened. Also happened about 1 minute after hitting the stop button on RealBench)
System can work fine for one day or a week and this issue will start happening again out of no where.


Reseated all PSU cables, reseated CPU, and reseated RAM.
Removed all usb devices except mouse and keyboard.
Removed sound card, case fans, and internal USB hubs.
Self test on Corsair AX860i power supply passes.

Shut down can most of the time be replicated when running memtest via usb flash drive around the 13-15min mark. Ouccurs with a single RAM dimm in one slot and also with 4 occupied. Happened over 6+ times doing this.

If a shut down doesn't happen during a memtest, then the next time the random shut down does happen, if I run memtest right after it will always shut down around the 13 minute mark until it randomly stops on shutting down on its own.

Specs are:
i7 6900k
Rampage V Edition 10
32GB Corsair Dominator Platinum (Model: CMD16GX4M2B3000C15) - 1.35v 3000MHz 15-17-17-35
Corsair h100i
GTX 1080 STRIX
Corsair AX860i

I'm currently running default OC values to see if it happens even at stock. It was happening with at the same time as a light OC of 4.2GHz @ 1.275 adaptive voltage.

If anyone can throw out any ideas, I'd appreciated it. I'm leaning more towards the motherboard itself or the CPU being bad.

Try separating the kits...by serial number (should be on the sticks themselves)

Run just one kit in recommended dual channel slots...see if one kit works...then maybe test the other...see if they work separately at least before trying to run them together...

OK, I am now running RealBench with one kit in the proper DIMM channels as per the motherboard user guide says for 2 DIMM modules. The serials were close. One kit is 164102838620784 & 164102838620785. And the other kit that I am now runnings is 164102838620790 & 164102838620791 😐

LuxMark-64.exe has stopped responding, like it seems to once in a while, but RealBench is still running.

Well, 20ish min into RealBench, the screen went black 3 times with some odd graphical distortion, it continued with the test after them and then I got a shut down. Now when attempting to power on, it powers on and off instantly. Cycling PSU switch over and over and still powering on and off.

Tried clearing cmos and pressing the safe boot button but it's still coming on and off instantly. Going to leave the PSU off and unplugged for a bit.

Update. After removing all the ram modules, leaving the ram slots empty, it finally powered on. I then shut it off, put 2 modules back in and it powered back on as well. Not sure if removing the ram had anything to do with it finally powering back on though. After it telling me to press F1 to enter setup, I do, save, exit and it powers off, attempts to power back on and instantly off.

Update 2: I repeated the removing the ram while leaving the ram slots empty and it still won't power on. So I don't think it has to do with the ram at this point. Seems like after I wait a while, I can finally power it back on.

Update 3: I rolled back the bios to 1003. When trying to use 2 ram sticks it will only read 1 of them for some reason totalling to just 8GB. When I try each slot individually, they both read the ram stick just fine. Updating the bios back to 1502 fixes this.

Update 4: I turned off the OCP on the Corsair AX860i and set it to a fixed fan speed of 40%. I have been running RealBench 2.43 for an hour now with no problems on complete default BIOS and 1 module in 2 slots. Keeping fingers crossed.

Hmmm...well reading through that I was wondering about the PSU even before I got to the end...

You have another PSU you can test...that doesn't sound like something you would have to do with a normal working unit...you're running stock not overclocking anything!

I've changed to a Corsair 750D case and have gotten some CableMod replacement cables. Also reinstalled Windows 10 with a fresh install and ran some RealBench benchmarks and been playing games, so far so good. Unfortunately, I do not have a spare PSU to test with.

It sounds identical to my problem, I have a rampage v extreme with no mixed ram sticks (16 gigs).

When my system finally boots up and I can enter the bios or get windows to start to load I can receive a blue screen that notes ACPI bios error before windows 10 fully loads to desktop. When I get that error the only thing I can do to get system to boot again is to reflash the Bios using a thumb drive this occurs about 30 percent of the time on my crashes.

This at least lets me get back into bios each time however when my system crashes I hear at times a loud screeching sound from my speakers and have to reboot system and back thru the loop of resolving this issue.

Currently I have just flashed to the new 3504 for my bios and and to put my cpu at 4 ghz (1.32 vlt), cache at 3 ghz (1.25 vlt) and ram at 2400 ghz. Had issues with default settings with crashing. So far so good however, in the past I can get a few hours or days out of my system and then back to the crashes.

I apologize for he long reply can you keep your thread updated if this did not resolve your problems with the clean install of windows I have done the same thing however problem persisted. As noted in my other thread I have ordered a new power supply and video card to see if either is the issue, still waiting for them to arrive.

Hi, ever since I turned off OCP and set a fixed 40% fan speed in Corsair Link for my Corsair AX860i and re-installed Windows 10, everything has been working fine, so far. But then again, the shut downs were happening up to a week later after my system had been running fine. I also ran RealBench stress test for 2 hours with all 32GB of RAM in and passed after I had made these changes.

I read quite a few threads with near identical issues with the AXi PSU's as I was having resulting in people having to RMA their AXi PSU's. If it happens again, I'm going to warranty my AX860i.

I'll keep this thread updated if/when the problem comes back.

If not done so already and you are still able to replicate the issue - disable C States beyond C3

Might be a bit of hassle but I would do that....no point paying for stuff that doesn't work as it is supposed to. OCP that works is one of the key things in a PSU.

black screens during Realbench, imho, point to either video card issues or PSU issues, not RAM... because a computer normally does not recover from RAM issues, no way.
