RVE10 and "GPU Post"

newbie questions, help please...

I have the GPUs in first (PCIEX16/X8_1) and third (PCIEX16/X8_3) slots and the monitor connected to the DVI port on the first (PCIEX16/X8_1). No OS loaded yet. I can manipulate the BIOS fine. Under the menu "Tool | GPU Post" the page indicates that nothing is present in PCIEX16/X8_1 and an NVIDIA GPU is in PCIEX16/X8_3 (with a message that says move it to PCIEX16/X8_1 - which I can't obviously.) Only the PCIE_LED3 LED is lit also. This happens whether the SLI/CFX switch is in the Disabled or 2-Way position. Is this expected/known? What am I missing in configuration / settings? Thanks.

BTW, I happened to look at the menu "System Agent Configuration | NB PCI-E Configuration" and the page indicates that PCIEX16/X8_1 and PCIEX16/8_3 are both "Linked at x16." The other two: PCIEX8_2 and PCIEX8_4 are "Not Present."

Hi kk60 🙂

Sorry man your post seems to have slipped our notice 😮

Sorted? OS installed and all running now?

Make sure your GPUs are seated properly and that they are not sagging etc...

The SLI switch you refer to is just a visual guide as to where to place the GPUs..it does not activate or facilitate SLI or anything like that...just lights up PCIe lanes for placement.

Check the PCIe lane switch is in the correct position...maybe flick on and off.

Maybe swap cards as you check they are seated right...make sure cards are correctly powered try each card in each slot...that sort of thing.

Clear CMOS

I haven't tried installing the OS (Win 10 x64 Ent.) yet because I thought I'd like to get the GPU issue straight first. I moved the cards around and just tried one in the first slot. The card is able to display the BIOS pages on the monitor (it works,) but it doesn't show up under GPU Post and it's LED does not light...odd. Still shows as "Linked at x16" under NB PCI-E Configuration. So looks like it can be seen by some part of the MB and not by another???

Cleard CMOS.
Reseated and swapped.
Flipped switches.

I've read posts with similar sounding issues and their multi-GPUs worked fine when the OS was installed. Might go ahead and try to install to see if Win 10 can see the GPUs.

Thanks though for any additional suggestions about this issue.

Hello

Install the operating system. Not all video cards are shown in the GPU Post section of the BIOS.

Weird...so by "not all cards" it depends on the GPU?...not the MB?

Because in my BIOS everything shows OK

...of course I have an OS if that matters 😮

I installed the OS and *most* of the drivers except it was late and I didn't get to the NVidia driver. I noticed that the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver was listed for both GPUs in the Device Manager, but the second one had error code 43. Do you think I still have some hope by installing the NVidia driver or am I likely looking at an RMA? Sorry, I know I'm asking for speculation. (I'll get to installing the NVidia drivers tonight.)

May as well install the driver...

Both cards work in slot 1 and slot 3 singly? Is the PCIe lane light for both slots now showing?

Are the GPUs powered by separate PCIe power cables...i.e. one cable one connector?

Leave sli bridge off for now.

I am sure you'll be fine, this is not uncommon for some GPU's to not be seen in the bios, but remember you need Win 10 version 1151 or higher to install Nvidia drivers for Pascal cards

To respond to you Arne: The cards work individually in slot 1 and slot 3. They are each powered by 2 x 8-pin cables that come from the power supply separately - 4 individual cables. I have the 24-pin, the 8-pin, the 4-pin and the additional 4-pin EZ_PLUG all connected. The first PCIe lane LED has never come on with these 2 GPUs. The third one works fine. Could it be because of the GPU card itself or a broken LED/circuit somehow? 😞 I guess I could test it with an old GTX 570 I have.

Anyway, for all of you - Menthol, Praz and Arne - I did as you said and installed the NVidia driver. Windows told me to reboot to re-enable functionality and both cards are now humming along apparently just fine. Device Manager is showing all's well. I moved the DVI cable back and forth between the two and the desktop appeared each time after a few seconds. This is a test setup, I have 4 monitors to attach after I get this system tuned and customized.

Thanks for bearing with me and your advice/suggestions. I am happy to have gotten this far. 🙂
