RVE And Samsung 950 Pro Results/Benchmark

Hello fellas,

Just got the Samsung 950 Pro on the RVE and what can i say besides, GOD DAMN THIS IS FAST. First of all, i must say that the installation went VERY smoothly, for those of you concerned with compatibility, it was a hassle free experience. Note that i have the most recent bios version which is 17** and i have manually set the bottom pcie to m.2 (don't like leaving things to auto). I installed it, booted, bios detected it straight away. Now in windows, windows 7 pro, detected it too, no problems there. I just had to go to disk management and initialize the disk (like any other). Also NOTE that you MUST install samsung's nvme drivers (which i did) for performance. So here is the performance test that i have done using ATTO benchmark. I know it might not be the best tool to bench a SSD but it is the only tool i know. IF any of you would like me to bench the 950pro on another program, feel free to ask and point me which soft you would like me to use.

So for the comparison, i've used an old Crucial MX100 512gb vs Samsun 950 Pro. I'm only going to post the biggest numbers since it's easier and i'll also upload the picture so you guys can see for yourself how the drive performs vs a standard SATA3 ssd.

Crucial MX100 512gb ***MAX WRITE SPEED*** : 509,807 mb/sec
Crucial MX100 512gb ***MAX READ SPEED *** : 547 827 mb/sec

Samsung 950 Pro ***MAX WRITE SPEED*** : 1,556,147 mb/sec
Samsung 950 Pro ***MAX READ SPEED *** : 2,604,224 mb/sec

SOOOOOOooo, as you can see, Samsung just opened a can of WHOOP-ASS :D.

Or get yourself two (or more) Samsung 950 PRO SATA SSD units in a striped RAID. Faster performance, lower cost.

How could you do a striped raid of 950 Pro if R5E has only one M2 connector ?

Have you experienced any thermal throttling yet? According to Puget Systems it gets very hot.

Hey,

Well first, my case's ventilation has a nice airflow and second, i don't see how you could get a thermal throttle by only gaming or watching movies etc. Could they've over-benched ?

Hey,

Well as of right now i've been using it instensively (resintalling games) over 200gb and it is INDEED hot, but not THAT hot to cause throttling. I think it's a damn fine product if you ask me.

From what I can see they are just copying really large .ISO files. That is enough to make the print extremely hot, above 90 Celsius.
Has anyone tested this with their Samsung product?

I dont think i have. Im sure im not running a load on that drive anywhere close to what they show in their testing.
