RVE And Samsung 950 Pro Results/Benchmark

Hello fellas,

Just got the Samsung 950 Pro on the RVE and what can i say besides, GOD DAMN THIS IS FAST. First of all, i must say that the installation went VERY smoothly, for those of you concerned with compatibility, it was a hassle free experience. Note that i have the most recent bios version which is 17** and i have manually set the bottom pcie to m.2 (don't like leaving things to auto). I installed it, booted, bios detected it straight away. Now in windows, windows 7 pro, detected it too, no problems there. I just had to go to disk management and initialize the disk (like any other). Also NOTE that you MUST install samsung's nvme drivers (which i did) for performance. So here is the performance test that i have done using ATTO benchmark. I know it might not be the best tool to bench a SSD but it is the only tool i know. IF any of you would like me to bench the 950pro on another program, feel free to ask and point me which soft you would like me to use.

So for the comparison, i've used an old Crucial MX100 512gb vs Samsun 950 Pro. I'm only going to post the biggest numbers since it's easier and i'll also upload the picture so you guys can see for yourself how the drive performs vs a standard SATA3 ssd.

Crucial MX100 512gb ***MAX WRITE SPEED*** : 509,807 mb/sec
Crucial MX100 512gb ***MAX READ SPEED *** : 547 827 mb/sec

Samsung 950 Pro ***MAX WRITE SPEED*** : 1,556,147 mb/sec
Samsung 950 Pro ***MAX READ SPEED *** : 2,604,224 mb/sec

SOOOOOOooo, as you can see, Samsung just opened a can of WHOOP-ASS :D.

From left to right here:

Intel 750 NVME SSD (My C-Drive)
Samsung 850 Evo in Rapid Mode
Samsung 850 Evo in Normal Mode

Before you ask, you can only run one SSD in rapid mode. And I think it cannot contain your operating system.

My laptop's got 1 drive, a 840 evo mSata and you can run rapid mode on it.

Arkhen,
a short benchmark program like the one above doesn't run long enough to heat it up, it would have to be something with sustained throughput. a lot of factors are in play, your ambient temps, heat output from you video cards will play a big factor, airflow in your case. I just ran AS SSD and the drive got to 39 degrees c. now idling at 36

Aight, I'll be grabbing one when they arrive in stock in Sweden. Should be within the next month's time.
Thx!

Yes sir rapid mode can only be run on one drive at a time, it can be run on the OS drive, the latest version 4.8 recognizes the 950 pro but cannot run rapid mode, I assume there will be another update to allow that. ASUS now bundles a ramcahe software with the Z170 boards that basically does the same thing, it is not compatible on X99 boards, I tried

So is ASUS starting to dis X99 boards?

X99 has RAM Disk. Which I've yet to experiment with.
