Re: Rampage V Extreme after Windows installation on SSD nvme M2 - there is no Windows Boot Manager

Hello Nate
I'm having the exact same problem, I've just installed a Samsung 980 (1Tb) I have the UEFI installation, when I click on it (in the motherboard BIOS menu) I get a black screen that reads:

Windows failed to start..... blah blah blah

File:\windows\system32\winload.exe

status: 0xc000000e

I've tried every  posible bootrec /rebuildbcd command but to no avail, I also tried a new installation and automatic fix option from the usb installation disc.

any other suggestions?

thanks

Bear with me as I edited and moved your thread, my reply is to your last reply.

So, you're saying when you select the M.2 setting and hit F10 to save, it says you've made no changes in the bios.

The ROG Rampage V Extreme has two bios chips, something easy to try is Bios 2.

Shut down your pc, press the bios switch button to switch to bios 2.

Hopefully, it will save the M.2 setting. If it doesn't, then I'll suggest to switch back to bios 1 and update the bios using E-Z Flash or bios flashback. You'll need a usb flash drive to update the bios.

Fingers crossed Bios 2 saves the M.2 setting.

well now I screw it eve worse.... I switched to the second BIOS changed al the previous parameters and this time when I hit the F10 got the message that  I changed from "Auto" to "M.2" restarted and still nothing so I went to this link: https://www.asus.com/supportonly/rampage%20v%20extreme/helpdesk_bios/ downloaded the BIOS Ver 4101 and I forgot to switch back to BIOS 1 so I installed and now BIOS 2 won't start up, I get a message that says that the BIOS is being updated and to not tu turn of my computer, after a while it shuts itself down and restarts again with the same message, after 3 or 4 times it starts with BIOS 1.... did I bricked BIOS 2??? is it safe to try to install the BIOS update in BIOS 1 after what happened? BTW I'm running BIOS 1 Ver. 0802, should I download older version instead of  the latest (0401)

thanks for your help bro.

You're welcome.

It's possible something went wrong with the update with bios 2. No worries, you can update/reflash it  with bios flashback. I'll record a quick video to show you how to rename the bios file and put it on a usb flash drive.

Hang tight, I'll be back with a video and we'll fix Bios 2.

After downloading the bios file, I see there is no bios renamer and is already a CAP file.

To use bios flashback..

Power down your pc and let the psu switch on.

Insert your usb flash drive into the bios flashback port, press and hold the bios flashback button until it starts blinking then release. The blinking should get faster as it goes then stop when completed. Should take around a minute and a half to two minutes.

Sorry, I see in the motherboard manual we do have to rename the bios file.

Right click the bios file on your usb flash drive and click, Show more options, click Rename, rename it to R5E.CAP

My fault there, now try bios flashback.

Power down your pc and let the psu switch on.

Insert your usb flash drive into the bios flashback port, press and hold the bios flashback button until it starts blinking then release. The blinking should get faster as it goes then stop when completed. Should take around a minute and a half to two minutes.

If we fixed Bios 2, reset to defaults, this time change only the M.2 setting.
