Hello everyone

I would like to share some research I did on this board. I have notcied that many users seem to have problems with thier windows hanging on loading screen. This is my previous post about it:

http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?54591-Windows-boot-uo-hangs-with-fault-codes-fd-61-system-i...

Here are some more users with the same problem:

http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?53759-Rampage-V-Extreme-won-t-boot-with-2-SLI-GeForce-Titan...
http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?54976-Rampage-V-Extreme-X99-and-Thrustmaster-Warhog-HOTAS

I have seen more threads about this but I can't seem to find them now. The solution to my windows hanging seems to be disconnecting my USB 2.0 hub that goes to my Dell u2412m screen. After that the problem seems to have vanished. But I am wondering why this is happening and not every boot but just randomly. It always hangs on fd or 61 error codes when it hangs.

Really to me this board seems like it is still in the beta phase, there is so many bugs on glitches that it should not have been released. I am considering switching to EVGA since my friend has that board and it works just flawlessly even with the usb 2.0 hub on his screen. Could Asus please release a bios that fixes this? I have owned all Rampage boards since the II for x58 and I have never had so many problems like I have had with this one.

I have removed all sorts of hubs and USB devices from my system, Logitech, Dell, Corsair and a external soundcard. If I plug any of these in I can get an error code causing the system to not boot. I got tierd of this **** seriously it really needs to have some backwards compability. I swapped board to an EVGA board and never had any issues again with the same devices, so if you have problems with this you may want to consider switching boards. It is just to much of a pain in the ass to deal with and I really want to use all my good USB devices that works great with the EVGA board.

The EVGA board preforms equal if not better than the Asus board aswell, I don't think I will ever buy another Asus board, because this problem really feed me up and I got basicly no help with it at all except the recomendation to unplugg or update firmware on USB devices(Most of them old devices without any updates coming soon). I also RMAed my board thinking it might be somethign wrong with it but the new board behaved the same, so I then got the vendor to swap boards for me.

Really to me it feels like this board never was tested enough, Asus please replicate my system in a test enviorment and you will see that you will have all sorts of problems with the USB devices. I have read countless of post of people have the same issues, please inform them that your board simple can't handle a normal USB hub.

I have had exactly same problem, thought it might be related to OC but it turn out to be Logitech Extreme 3D joystick... Once disconnected, Windows is booting up just fine...
I had bought even a new one ( same vendor/model ) but problem persist if joystick is connected. It is a pitty there is no proper solution as disabling any of the USB settings did not help in my case.

That's the thing about legacy devices. No one supports them anymore. If the manufacturer won't release an updated firmware, disabling xHCI solves the problem in most cases. You do lose USB 3.0 speed and yes it's a compromise.

But if you feel that the R5E isn't working the way you want it to, then just get another motherboard. In your case, you did and you're happy. That's what counts. 😉

That's funny to read legacy devices aren't supported anymore by anyone. I thought the job of the USB-IF was to make sure their standard (USB) is backward and onward compatible. Hence the USB certification on every devices... It's the strength of USB and a key selling point of that standard... If a board doesn't live up to the expectations the standard had built over the years, then it's very likely this board has a design flaw.
