I'm really hoping MS opens Win 11 up to other processors later. I currently have a i7-6900k and it's perfectly good.
For fun, I've been toying with an upgrade to a Rampage VI and a i9-10900x... but I'm just not seeing the compelling use-case for it. Intel performance growth seems to have stagnated for the last few years and I'm not seeing a significant enough performance upgrade (~ 15% single core) from my current chip to the i9 to justify the cost. Especially considering it's still 14 nm. Seems like wasting perfectly good money.
The 11th gen i9 processors look more interesting, performance-wise, but it has no HEDT option - so I'm guessing that means a migration from the Rampage line to Maximus or something.
I'm kind of thinking that it seems like the best bet is to wait (since everything runs perfectly fine) to see what's going on with the next round of HEDT chips with Sapphire Rapids @ 10 nm... assuming it comes out on time in Q2/22.

Welp, my problem just solved itself - my R5E died today. Went complete dead with no leds on at all. Now some leds light up but it immediately shuts off every time I try to power it up. Tried with another power supply with same result.
Guess I’m getting a z590 board with rocket lake since I can’t hold out until mid next year to see if the new hedt processors hit.*

Welp, that's one way to ensure Windows 11 compatibility...start over, only because now you have to.
It looks like Z690 will be available in November. Can you hold out until then? Not that anyone needs it, but it looks like it'll have DDR5 and PCI-e 5.0, not sure what else offhand.

I ended up jumping ship and cancelled my order for an Asus Maximum XIII (z590) with i9-11900k. I’m a huge Intel fan, but I couldn’t justify the 14nm, power, and thermals given the performance. Ended up ordering the Asus Crosshair VIII Formula (x570) with a 5950x.
Ticked that I missed PCIE-5 and DDR5. Guess I’ll have to catch those next time around. To stay Intel, I wanted 10nm at a minimum and preferably a HEDT option which meant holding out to 2Q/3Q next year. Just too long to wait.
PS. Finally figured out how to change the forum language back from Vietnamese to English - Asus sure didn’t make it easy. Â*

First of all, not sure what it is but I'm seeing strange characters at random in your typing.
Why AMD? Is this because of the core count from the Intel CPU vs the AMD one? Too bad you couldn't wait for the Intel Z690 mobos.
