Rampage V bios problems

Hi, i currently have bios version 1103 for the board. I have tried with both bios chips and all bios updates past 1103
and they update correctly but when the pc restarts i get the bios load screen then it says:

"Bios is updating".
"Do not shut down or reset the system to prevent system boot up failure"

tried ASUS EZFLASH2 and bios flashback with a USB and still the same message appears.

It just kind of sits there and does nothing. Left it for 2 hours and its still there. Shut the pc down and re-flashed to bios version 1103and it works fine. Further more my G.Skill memory voltage will not adjust at all. It for some reason is stuck between 1.184 and 1.191vin the 1103 bios. I set to 1.150 still reads 1.184. Set to 1.35v as its supposed to and it still reads 1.184-1.191v. cleared cmos tried1 stick of memory nothing. because of this my memory wont go above 2133mhz or it wont post and i have to safe boot.

I beleive my friend had a similar issue and he updated the bios and it fixed the problem, however mine wont update properly. I haventtried a version below 1103.

I had the memory running on 3000mhz fine now it wont adjust the voltage and will only do 2133mhz.

Anyone have any advice thanks :).

tried Load to default settings in the Bios? if that doesnt help , try Clear CMOS.

1. List your complete system specifications as detailed as possbile including the model of your monitor and all USB devices connected to your system.

2. Is your USB pendrive FAT32 formatted?

3. Is the BIOS the only file on it?

4. Did you rename the file properly when using the USB BIOS Flashback procedure?

5. And lastly, what model and capacity is your USB pendrive?

cleared CMOS several times, loaded default settings and ensured stable.

System specs: I7 5930K, Asus Rampage V Extreme X99, 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws 4 3000mhz, EVGA SC 980Ti (x2 in SLI), Samsung 850 pro 256GB, Seagate 2tb HDD, HX1000i, 900D

All under custom water loop (well starting today or tomorrow) so i really dont want to take the board out :(. Trying to sort it prior to starting the loop incase.

USB, Corsair k70 cherry MX keyboard, corsair M65 mouse, i do have a rubbish usb mic and desk fan but i have tried them unplugged.

As far as monitors etc I have a acer 42k2 (XB280HK), and ROG swift.

Yes drive is fat32 formatted 32gb capacity and using correct file R5E.cap to do USB flashback. formatted with no other files than the bios one.

I have tried 2 different USB drives, one is a generic 12GB, one teamgroup 32GB. Flashed a few months ago fine, will flash the 1103 bios fine just not any further than that or i get that message..

If i EZFLASH2 it with the new bios it gets to about halfway going slow then speeds up (on the progress bar).

I have ordered a new USB flash drive that will be here tomorrow (sandisk G46), to see if that cures it.

thanks 🙂

Or see if you can borrow one from a family member or friend. Preferrably try to get a smaller capacity one. Maybe 4GB or 8GB.

If the above fails, try disabling xHCI in the BIOS before flashing the BIOS.

Do you have an older BIOS on the second BIOS chip? Maybe clear cmos and change to second chip...then copy the bios on that chip over to first and then try.

Best USB pen for bios flashback are small usb 2.0 ones.

If pen appears in OS with a manufacturer name or drive name other than a letter this can interfere with flashing...

Open a command prompt window as Administrator and use diskpart to format your pendrive.

Type... and press enter after every line of course

diskpart
listdisk
select diskn (where n is the number of the pendrive)
clean
create partition primary
select partition 1
active
format fs=fat32 quick
assign
exit

Download a fresh copy of the BIOS file of course...maybe the one you have is corrupted.
