Q code 00

Okay I'm banging my head against the wall here hoping it's not a bad mobo

Specs
Rampage V Extreme
Intel i7 5930K CPU
Gigabyte GTX980 Graphics x 2 in SLI
32 GB Geil RAM DDR4 2600
Corsair H100i water cooler unit

First boot the Q codes cycled through 4 or 5 numbers, couldn't really remember any of them and then it shut down. Rinse and repeat 3 or 4 times. Then finally boots up, POST appears on the monitor and I can see it detecting all the peripherals. The last thing I remember seeing is the mouse and keyboard successfully detected, I got up to grab my Win7 DVD to install windows, put it in the drive then when I looked back the screen is black and the Q code is showing 00.

What I've done

  • USB bios flash to latest
  • checked CPU is seated correctly and no damage to pins
  • Unplugged all peripherals except 1 graphics card and single stick of ram
  • safe boot doesn't work
  • LN2 jumper changed in case of cold boot bug
  • All PCIE slots deactivated with switch except one in use

My heart tells me that given it started to boot and appeared to be working that it's most likely a bad mobo, but just in case there is something I've missed I thought I'd try here. Oh and I have all 9 mobo risers below the board so there is no touchy feely with the case going on 😉

Edit : look like faulty mobo, I had another CPU handy and tried with that and no different, still Q code 00 even when there is nothing connected except the CPU.

1. Uninstall everything and remove your motherboard from the case.
2. Put it on top of the cardboard box it came in.
3. Remove the CMOS battery for 5 minutes.
4. Put it back into place.
5. Install your CPU and heatsink making sure to not overtightend the screws.
6. Install one stick of RAM into the DIMM_A1 slot.
7. Connect the 24 pin, 8 pin and 4 pin power cables.
8. Install your GPU and connect the PCIe cables.
9. Connect a monitor to your system.
10. Push the Start button.

So you get any image on the monitor? What QCODE do you see on the DEBUG LED? Last but not least, do any of the QLEDS beside the 24 pin power connector remain lit?

Try the 2nd bios me and a few others have gotten bad bios chips a lest one should be good if not your luck really is bad 😛 . You can change the bios by pushing the button on the bottom right of the board.
