PCIe Intel 750 SSD - Which PCIe slot to use?

I purchased a Intel 750 1.2tb PCIe SSD (http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/solid-state-drives/solid-state-drives-750-series.html). I was reading on Toms Hardware " best performance from a link attached to your CPU (rather than a Platform Controller Hub's PCIe lanes)." I have the Rampge IV Extreme X79. Which slot would be best for this SSD?

I am currently only using the top PCIe for my 1080 card.

Also, I haven't updated my bios in a year or 2. Is it neessary for this SSD to work?

Thanks in advance!

Just found an article with people saying it does work in Boot mode. Thanks!

Intel 750 works just fine been running it for some time. Samsung 950 M.2 also works in Asus PCIe adapter and it's fast.

Some x79 boards can use NVME but it will be running at x2 instead of x4. Some of those x79 won't be able to boot from it but will be able to use it as a non-boot drive.

Bottom line if you can get it to work any slot that is x4 or higher will work.

Hello

Configured correctly the Intel 750 will run at Gen3/x4 on x79 boards.

I don't see how it is guaranteed. I have a Z97 and Z87 chipset motherboard, both high end Asus. Only one will run NVME and only then at x2. From what I understand it is a limitation of the BIOS and chipset. Now I should preface that as running x2 as a boot drive. I was able to run it as a non-boot drive, but since I wasn't wanting to use it as a secondary drive I didn't check the speed.

Praz said nothing of a guarantee, He posted " Configured correctly the Intel 750 will run at Gen3/x4 on x79 boards."

What you have to consider is what board, what slot and what else is sharing those lanes.
