for whatever reason this forum will not let me reply to your reply about my internet connection. the device manager shows that the intel ethernet connection 1218-v is up to date. i am using a cat 5 cable directly to the router, under other devices there is no driver for the 690lc and no driver for "network controller" I cannot find either anywhere. the cd that came with the motherboard cannot be read for whatever reason. i have the netwok and sharing center open and it intermittently connect to the netwoek sometimes for 5-10 minutes and then sometimes for only seconds. then it goes dead for 5-10 minutes at a time. i have tried disabling and enabling the netowrk controller any other ideas?
figured out how to change the bios. no difference. initial;ly it says network cable unplugged, which of course it is not. If I hadnt already mentioned it, the very same cable works in my old system perfectly, so it isnt the cable
