My USB with an ISO file of Windows 7 is not being seen

Randolla

I am trying to get an operating system installed on my M2 drive. It is a Samsung XP941. Windows is giving me a message that I can't install to it and something needs to be changed in the BIOS . I have READ EVERYTHING here in the forums related to an M2 and other places as well. What I found is that I need to have an ISO file of Windows 7 Pro 64 bit copied to a USB drive. So I did that. The drive is shown in the BIOS but I don't know how to get it to install Windows. I have changed the boot order to have the USB first and have enabled everything I can think of to no avail.

I am VERY, VERY frustrated and I REALLY COULD USE SOME HELP. My first post was deleted as a duplicate. I have not been able to find a thread here that HAS A SOLUTION. If there is one, please point it out to me. I am new here with the R5E being my first ASUS product.

I really could use some help.

Thanking you all in advance.

And you have to disable Secure Boot. Win 7 won't boot if the Secure Boot keys are installed, as I had to figure out myself.

And how exactly do you do that?? Secure boot is grayed out and I do not know how to turn it on or off. I have looked in the manual but I can't find anything that tells me how. Maybe I just missed it.

I am just trying to INSTALL windows. Once it is, I will try to get it to boot again. Thanks for the tip.

Hi Grestorn,

This is interesting, on principle i agree with you, but since Rampage IV i i'm installing W7 on Raid0 or AHCI with Secure Boot enabled, without any issues. Even the Optimized Defaults consider Sec. Boot enabled.

Well, my drives are SATA SSD and not M.2 ones, maybe this makes a difference.

valdir

Hello

As you have purchased an OEM drive with no consumer support you do not have access to the necessary drivers to install in anything but UEFI mode. Unlike Win8 Win7 cannot be copied from the install disk to a USB stick without a bit of preparation for booting in UEFI mode. Google should return plenty of results on which files need to be relocated on the USB stick.

I seem to have Windows ISO file on the USB stick OK. I just can't get it to see the XP941 as an appropriate drive to install to.

You just have to delete the keys from the Secure Boot page in the UEFI Setup.

You can always reinstall the keys by loading the default key sets.

You probably didn't use a GPT partition scheme, did you? Secure Boote will only work on GPT.

I tried to install Win7 as a second OS next to Win8.1 on my SATA-III SSD and I just couldn't do it. The first boot of Win 7 always failed with a "couldn't very signature on ...winload.exe" error message. The only way around that - apart from installing Win7 on a MBR style disk - was to disable Secure Boot.

SOLVED!!!! FIXED!!!!

I had to change the M2 from a MBR partition to a GPT one. I have the instructions on how to do this if anyone needs them. I will post them along with everything I have learned about using an M2 SSD drive as a boot drive and installing Windows on it. Right now I am busy getting my new rig all set up and trying to figure out how to over clock it. Please send me a private message if you need any help in the meantime.

Thank you to everyone who helped solve this maddening dilemma and special thanks to Praz for consolidating my posts in to one instead of deleting them. I am new hear and still trying to figure things out.

Like how do I add SOLVED!!! to the title of this thread? Please add that if it is up to a moderator to fix.

Thanks again everyone
