Micro Stuttering from running a balanced power plan! (TEMP FIX HERE)

LiveOrDie

There seem to be a problem with x99 and using a balanced power plan it produces Micro Stutters in some games i can't say how many games get this problem but Bioshock Infinite is one of them, After comparing both balanced and High Performance you can clearly see the problem, And seeing my 3770K runs a balanced power plan fine with no stuttering i can only put it down to the chipset?

Games Affected/Tested so far

Bioshock Infinite
Borderlands 2
Borderlands The Pre-Sequel

EDIT 03/02/15 TEMP FIX

This problem seems to be related to the unreal engine and X99 chipset there is no hard fix for this problem but you can download this handy tray program called Full Throttle Override
and add all unreal engine games to its games list this will set a High Performance power plan when starting the game.

Yer I'll be doing most tests when I'm home like I said only some games have this problem lm not sure if its related to the board or the chipset, I don't get this problem in dead space 3, titan fall or BF4 seems to be games on the unreal engine but can't say for sure until I test more.

If you run something like Unigine valley, can you see a difference in runtime benchmark between balanced and performance plans? I do not (and neither do I see the micro stutter yet). I am just wondering if you can identify the difference in benchmarking. Micro-stutter is still a drop in FPS albeit fractional...but over a benchmark run it should show-up.

EDIT:

OK after doing some test here what i have

Single GPU on Balance Power Plan = Bad stuttering
Single GPU on High Performance Power Plan = No stuttering
SLI GPU on Balance Power Plan = Bad stuttering
SLI GPU on High Performance Power Plan = Reduced Stuttering but is still there

Hey!

On what was this tested ? And btw SLi and Xfire aren't the most reliable sources in stutter free application.
Do you experience stutter in a previous chipset with SLi in the same test ?
Thanks

Bioshock infinite Benchmark just clearly watching it run i can see the stuttering, Watching the bench run using 1 GPU it runs smooth no stutter as long as I'm on High Performance for SLI i can't say i brought the 2nd GPU when i got my R5E but i seem to only get these problem in games using the unreal engine as I've played BF4 for hours, Ill run some more tests later on and see how it goes i know i was getting stuttering in SON OF ROME as well i will test this game to and report back.

Hey!

Have you tried Unigine Heaven 4.0? If so, if stutter is present, we could all batch test with a bunch of different computers so it could help pinpoint the problem if it's hardware related or chipset drivers etc.. If you haven't done it yet , could you? I will test it too if you report it has stuttering!

Thanks

Ill run it tomorrow when i get off work @ 1080p max settings.

Hey

Alright then! I'll wait for your input and ill test it if yours comes back positive.

Thanks

Doesn't look to be a universal problem. These results were run @ 1920x1200, default Unigine Heaven 4 settings.

Balanced High Performance
FPS 46.3 47.2
Score 1168 1190
Min FPS 20.8 8.1
Max FPS 109.2 112.0

I also tested using the Shadow of Mordor benchmark, since that game (still) doesn't support CrossFire; results between balanced and High were basically identical.

Hey azusa!

Stuttering doesn't always present itself as performance loss. So comparison between balanced and high perf is somewhat useless imo. Although, did you watch both videos all the way ? if so, could you notice stutter ?

thanks

I did, and didn't notice any difference. Which isn't to say I don't have plenty of stuttering, it's terrible in Wolfenstein: The New Order, just doesn't seem to make any difference what power saving mode I'm in.

I ran the tests because I've noticed stuttering is significantly worse on this platform, than it was with the same GFX card on an old X38/Q6600 system. *Something* is wrong, but in my case I don't think it's power saving related.
