Micro Stuttering from running a balanced power plan! (TEMP FIX HERE)

LiveOrDie
Level 11
There seem to be a problem with x99 and using a balanced power plan it produces Micro Stutters in some games i can't say how many games get this problem but Bioshock Infinite is one of them, After comparing both balanced and High Performance you can clearly see the problem, And seeing my 3770K runs a balanced power plan fine with no stuttering i can only put it down to the chipset?

Games Affected/Tested so far

Bioshock Infinite
Borderlands 2
Borderlands The Pre-Sequel

EDIT 03/02/15 TEMP FIX

This problem seems to be related to the unreal engine and X99 chipset there is no hard fix for this problem but you can download this handy tray program called Full Throttle Override
and add all unreal engine games to its games list this will set a High Performance power plan when starting the game.

Hello OP:

I run a Rampage V Extreme + 5960x (o'cdd of course).

When I'm leaving my 'puter idle, downloading torrents while Im AFK, I use balanced power plan so the CPU multiplier scales down.

When I'm gaming, if I remember, I click over to the High Performance plan, forcing the CPU multiplier to lock at the max. It literally takes less than 20 seconds to change plans. So if the stutter bugs you, just click over to High Performance before you start gaming.

Hey!

While this is a good short term fix, iwe're "not supposed" to do that. If it was the same for every platform, we wouldn't be here. Unfortunately it's just us... If it happens that everybody's experiencing the same issue we'll need to pinpoint the reason behind and find the real culprit.

Thanks

Max

Yes windows is intended to work on a balanced power plan also its bugs me there not a mode to auto set the change going on CPU usage or 3D. Ill be running that bench mark soon.

I haven't tried this (not at home) but here is a way to create a desktop shortcut to change power plans with just a double click of an icon. It's for windows 7 but I bet it works for win 8.1 too.

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/create-a-shortcut-or-hotkey-to-switch-power-plans/

Just put that icon next to Far Cry 4 and you won't forget to spool up your CPU multiplier before gaming

No stutter in heaven but if you can download the UE4 Elemental Demo and test on both power plans to see if you also get the same problem i have just tested it out and the problem is there running the Demo you need to install both vcredist2013 and also update your DX if it wont start, Going from balanced to Performance almost remove all stutter. I will try to make a video showing both side by side tomorrow.

Note: Also you only need to compare the Demo up to where its start to pan the camera up to the demon, The pillar scene should show you any stuttering if you have the problem.

Hey!

Got it real quick and i've set up the cfg but from the first look of it, i'm not sure if it's stutter or my gfx rushing cuz it doesn't use SLi so i'm stuck testing with a gtx680 2gb. Do you use some kind of tools (other programs) to detect real stuttering ?

thanks

I tested without sli also if you think its FPS lag turn on shadow play so it renders a fps counter and maybe try at a lower res as the stuttering isn't GPU related so res shouldn't matter, no tools you can just tell by watching how smooth the camera pans accross the screen watch it on each test on each power plan and if there's a difference you will see it.
