Hey all,
Simply put, this Rampage Extreme is very picky when it comes to my CPU fan header and my D5 pump. On BIOS version 2001 and 1901 and 1801, it recognizes it about 1/2 the time. One 1/4 of the remaining times it gives me a CPU fan error but when I go into BIOS it is there and monitoring and I can go into WIndows. The other 1/4 of the time it won't show the CPU pump at all and I have to depower, unplug the computer, wait until the CPU cools down and start again.
The reason I want this on the CPU header is if the pump ever actually does fail, I want the notification that the CPU fan header is showing 0 speed.
I have done the following:
1. Tested another fan on the CPU header and it works 100% of the time.
2. Tested the pump on another computer on its CPU fan header and it works 100% of the time.
3. I have put the pump on another header and it works 100% of the time (but I do not want this as explained.) Also this causes the other fan on the same channel to run at 100% I have 13 fans and no other headers to use.
4. I have put a fan on the CPU header and the pump on the CPU_OPT but then I have a fan running at 100% again at all times (very noisy)
5. I have tried 6 different BIOS versions including the new 3101. That doesn't recognize the PUMP at all.
6. I have tried this with the MB outside the case (I did this because Asus demands it as a troubleshooting step.) nothing has worked.
I'm bringing this to the forum because Asus says it has to be RMA'd. The problem is I had this issue with a previous MB of the same make that I had to RMA for another issue so I'm not sure a new one will resolve it. Also Asus doesn't have any of these in stock for replacement and hasn't for 3 months, so even if I wanted to RMA it, a replacement isn't forth coming.
Honestly I'm glad I didn't agree to a standard RMA because I would have been waiting 3 months with absolutely NO motherboard with no end in site.
I'd like this to work and was wondering if anyone else has any suggestions. At this time it is on another header. If it fails I'm assuming the machine will shut down once the CPU reaches its thermal limit, but I'd rather have an alarm come on when the RPMs go to zero and have the machine NOT overheat.
Any suggestions Please?
Thanks.
