As I mentioned on another thread or two, you can get some odd behavior if you've plugged too many things into one power strip. That specific error was among the issues I experienced. If you have a lot of things plugged into the same power strip as your computer, try moving a few of them off and see if it helps.

Hi Qwinn thanks for the reply. the computer is not plugged into anything but the wall. im using a corsair HX1000i psu. there is no overclock running not even XMP and the mobo come with bios 1701. got the error after a restart now i dont feel like i want to risk truing it off or on. the mobo is not even a week old and now i have no trust in it.

Hmm, what video cards do you have? With what you've given so far, I don't see anything that would even come close to taxing a 1000W PSU.

The one thing you can still take away from my experience, though, is that it seems you can get the "Overvolt" error even when it's actually an undervolt/brownout. Which is hopefully the case for you as well, as that would be much less likely to do any lasting damage.

Hey,

Try setting a manual voltage in bios.

Hey,

I feel you lordo. Some spend 3-4-5k and plug the damn computer in the wall outlet. Jesus.. Talk about playing with fire :).

It has a MSI R9 290-4G gaming gpu overclocked from 977/1250 to 1100/1375. pc was plugged into a surge protector. but i was tolled that it can give wrong readings and make the pc unstable? is it better plugging it back into one? anyone know of a very good UPS one i can use? its just that my rampage iv mobo died on me 3 weeks ago. but i cant get a x79 mobo anywhere from in the uk. so i had sell the cpu and ram cheap and fork out on a full new pc. i was gutted as my old 3930k was an amazing overclocker vcore 1.42 got me 5ghz for benchmarks offset of +0.15 got me 4.6ghz for 24/7 use. not even got round to overclocking this one yet. now i dont even know if i want to take the risk. do Intel still offer insurance for cpu? thank you all for your help.

ps. if i get a UPS will i need one the same watt as the psu. just i have never used an Uninterruptible Power Supply as i thought they were just for power cuts so you had time to save any work your doing in time.

I use one of these http://www.apc.com/shop/gb/en/products/APC-Smart-UPS-2200VA-LCD-230V/P-SMT2200I
It runs all my computer gear with ease, some say overkill but with a quieter fan it's great.

It used to be hardwired into the office, it also ran the combi boiler in case we needed to shower with no electric in the morning but now it is my sons room so it sits net to the PC instead of the loft.

I've considered getting a ups, but 900 watts is about the biggest one I can find advertised, and I'm unsure if that would be enough for a system with a 1200w PSU.
