CPU installation tool

Really neat concept. No more bent pins. Watched a couple of YouTube videos.

Will this come with the new RVE10?

I noticed the guys touching the contacts on the bottom of the CPU. I thought you weren't supposed to do that. Nor the socket pins in the motherboard of course. Touching the bottom of the CPU is no big deal?

It does come with the new Rampage board. There will be one for Haswell E and one for Broadwell E processors. You really shouldn't touch the bottom of the processor or pins. You don't want to get it dirty or get the oils from your skin on the contacts.

That's what I thought. In those videos, the guy is placing his fingers all over the contacts on the bottom of the CPU. ??

Clean it with Isopropyl alcohol afterwards and let it dry.

One of the Best concept ASUS ever came out with. and I agree , I wear surgical gloves when handle them and have a can of compressed air. I blow off the pads before installing into the socket. 🙂 Would be nice if we can find a video of one installing on the 2011-3 socket.

Chuckle, way overkill, but certainly cleaner is better.

I have to admit I was scratching my head a bit when I saw this wondering what was gained beyond yet more handling of the chip, but I guess I take dexterity and hand-eye coordination for granted watching those videos. :confused:

Then again, my dog nearly destroyed an R5E socket, saved only with surgery on those ridiculous flying pins, so who am I to judge? 😛

(the dog didn't step on the socket, it was on a proper table/bench, he ran into a lamp that started a chain reaction...)

wow, if they didn't make it easy enough already moving pins from the CPU to the board, but I guess it is helpful for the total noob.

It seems to me the main advantage for non-noobs with this tool is that if you apply too much thermal paste, it looks like it would get squeezed out onto the tool rather than other delicate bits on the board, which is nice. I may be wrong that it actually does that, but that's how it seems to me.
