HI like the board but BIOS problem similar to some here. New board, memory, GPUs. Upgraded BIOS1 successfully to 0706. Copied BIOS 1 to BIOS 2. Entered upgrading BIOS loop. Now can POST fine from BIOS 1 but BIOS 2 QCODE 00, only some fans working. EZFLASHed to 0706 on BIOS 2 0706, this time see some steps on QCODE but ends at 4F, pressing reset gets to 2F. Loosened all screws on MOBO, heatsink. Tried also copy BIOS 1 --> BIOS 2 but no joy. Net BIOS 1 is perfect but BIOS 2 lands at 00, or 4F.

Did you let the copy process finished before starting your system? If the process was interrupted, the BIOS chip probably got messed up and will need to be reprogrammed. Switch to BIOS 2 and try using the USB BIOS Flashback procedure with the latest 0801 BIOS. If it works, then you're in luck. If not, you'll either have to RMA the motherboard to ASUS or buy a preprogrammed BIOS chip online.

Sounds like mine you will need to replace the bios chip i have tried every think to fix it and it cant be done.

i think could be something wrong with the process of flashing back one bios to another one in the RVE, at least in some boards or with some bios versions.

i say that because one of the bios in my previous RVE was fried exactly when i did this operation, and i think there are several cases, in this Forum, where this happened after flashing back one bios to another one.

Well, i think this should be investigated by ASUS, because i was also an early adopter of RIVE and i dont remember happening on that board the number of bios failures that seems be happening with RVE.

thanks for the input from all, very sure I left the copy process long enough I also had a R4E board and used copy all the time without a single issue. it got stuck in a bios upgrade loop after copy and bios lights had stopped flashing. i had not touched any other settings at that point. does seem remarkably similar to some other experiences here.

couple of questions then, where can I get 0801 can only say 0706 on the site, and any recommendations on where to get a BIOS chip for the R5E if i dont rma

I also have seen a few people mention that copying from one bios chip to another caused this problem. And I also wonder about having to reactivate windows on the second bios chip. Never had that issue before on a board with 2 bios chips. Question whether this is related. Windows stated that the activation code was used on another computer. Made no sense to me. ??

I've been flashing and copying back and forth from one BIOS chip to another now for a while now and all is good. Flashing the BIOS is a delicate matter after all so I would advise users to not play around with their BIOS unless you're having a specific problem that only an updated BIOS will fix. Anyways, just wanted to put that out there.

You can find the 0801 BIOS linked in my signature. As for where to buy BIOS chips, Ebay is your best friend there.

I also did the copy bios 1 to bios 2 but never rebooted it was ether like you said related to the copy or the chip was dead to start with.
