Audio - Headphone surround sound issues

Hi,
So I've recently built a new PC and chose the Rampage V extreme as the board to use, one of the reasons was for the audio features. I was previously using an Astro a40 and mixamp over optical with Dolby Live for 7.1 surround sound which was great and I never had any issues with it but the headband recently broke so I purchased some new AKG K702 Headphones to go with the new PC.

Now the issue I'm having is that the surround sound just doesn't sound at all right in any game, I've tried playing with literally every setting in SupremeFX and just can't get it sounding good. For example if there is a sound directly behind me its ridiculously quiet then I turn slightly and it becomes stupidly loud and sounds like its coming from right next to me. There also seems to be this weird echo effect a lot of the time and I've no idea why. The headphones sound amazing for everything else so they can't be the issue, it just seems to be with the virtual surround sound or something.

These are all my current settings -

Hey Twister, I think the main difference is the Astros are designed for dobly live 7.1 surround sound, and the AKG k702 are just your stereo headphones.

They Astros come with a mixamp which u where using its what makes the "7.1 surround sound" sound and its design spec for that headset.

Have u tried plugging the AKG k702 in to the mixamp u have?

How are your headphones hooked up? have u tested the speaker config with the play button in the 5.1 config and did u hear all the speakers?

FIrst thing that jumps out u want uncheck the optional speakers as you don't have those. you just have your side speakers on your headphones. leaving them check means the sound is going to go to that channel on the back of MOBO which u have nothing plugged in to. then press play and see if you hear all the speakers other then the sub. I'm not sure if there is a virtual surround sound program for SupremeFX I'll have to check in to that I never used it so i'm not sure.

After you do that we can then take a look at game setting if its working properly at desktop.
