For those wanting to upgrade an existing system with USB 3.1 – that PCIE add-in card will also be available separately for compatible motherboards. Note: a BIOS update is sometimes required – see the press release for more details.

So here's a question. The latest bios included an update for usb 3.1 support. I now have to buy one of these cards to get full USB 3.1 capabilities??

Petty much as they can't change the ports or the chipset also the USB3.1 C-Type plug isn't the same as USB3 .

Thought so, I had to ask since someone else in a different thread made it sound like all you had to do was update bios. I knew it was too good to be true. Another question: is upgrading to 3.1 even worth it?

get the expansion card is worth it IF you have USB 3.1 devices to connect to it.

At a guess, I would get a card once I had the need for it

When will the Asus add on 3.1 card be available?

I was thinking of installing this on slot 6, PCIe 3.0 x8_4 slot. I don't think this slot is deactivated by my sound card in slot #3.
