6850k OC @ 4.4 voltages question

Catalonia
Level 8
Hello,

I've OC'd my 6850k in my Rampage V Edition 10 from 3.6 to 4.4GHz using Asus Suite and this voltages. System is pretty stable (no freezes at all) and CPU temps are ok (using Corsair H115i)

I'm quite new in the OC world, so I would really appreciate if some of you can give me some tips to see if I'm doing things right or not.

Here the screenshot.

Thank you!

Cache voltage looks fine. Whats you're Vcore under load?

This is my CPU under load. Aren't this temperatures so damn hot? 92º under just one minute of load I think is too much isn't it? How about the voltages? Maybe 1.484 for the core voltage is the reason why the temp goes this up so quickly? The voltage raises to more than 1.48 dynamically? The radiator temp is low, 38.8c so, I am maybe doing something wrong here.

Hello Catalonia,

Please make sure your H115i is connected to USB header and that you install the Corsair Link. The Corsair Link will manage your H115 fans and water pump.. Your temperature will go down significantly. I will suggest plugging the H115i 3pin connector to Water_Pump (if you have one)
Sincerely,
Legolas

I have a i7 5930k which is pretty much the same thing as your CPU, just one generation less. Same cores, ect.
These numbers look very close to what I have on mine, also at 4.4 with 1.35v Adaptive.

To be honest I regret entering to this X99 CPU's. I think that a powerful skylake under a good Z170 would have been better for gaming.

Here on "default" settings. Doesn't goes up so much. 48º under heavy load.

90 is way too hot. I should say I'm watercooled so that makes a difference.

I would go down to 4.3 and lowering the voltage a bit .. You really shouldn't be running about 90 Celsius under load period. It won't kill your system but 80-85 is the high-end comfy level for most folks.

The other most important thing is NOT to use ADAPTIVE mode if you are stress testing. That can kill your computer. Set it to manual mode, set it to 1.35v and then test it under load and see what your temps are.

If your machine draws 1.43v under adaptive mode during just game play, then you are definitely too high.

So: If you are going to do a stress/load test, do not use adaptive mode!! That is only used when you have found your limits, you are stable and are ready to use it every day. If these temps/volts was just you gaming, then you are way too high. If they were during a stress test, set it to manual, rerun the test.
