32gb vs 64gb, OC issues I should be concerned with?

Hi!

I'm building (replacing my RIVE/GTX 680) a gaming machine for surround 3D. 3 X Asus VG278H, 3 X EVGA 980 Hydro Copper, with 5930K.

In a couple years, this will be changed over to a multipurpose pc, including video editing. Probably switch the cpu at that time.

I've read here that you should get a complete "set" of memory, if you plan to add more later, thus, from reading here, got the:

G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 series 64GB (8 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400 (PC4-19200) Memory KitModel F4-2400C15Q2-64GRK, as per QVL.

The bulk of the OC will be on the gpu's.

I've also read here that a few games, like Dying Light, might be best to have 32gb instead of 16gb.

Thus, my question, if I do plan to do some nominal OC to the 5930K, will I be hindering the CPU OC much by putting all 64gb of ram in, instead of just 32gb?

Thanks!
I Love ROG 🙂

Running 64GB will tax the CPU's IMC. Not knowing your CPU's quality, it's hard to say how high you can overclock.

I just finished testing my overclock with G.Skill F4-2800C16Q-32GRK ram. I'm currently at 127.3x34 which is roughly 4333.3mhz using 1.35 volt input. Correct me if I'm wrong, I assume that a 5930k should get 100-300mhz higher than my overclock since it has two less cores.

In a perfect world, yes. 😛

Only if it is a good sample. If it is an average sample it will be limited for frequency.

Thanks guys, I guess I was asking the obvious, only one way to find out, start with 32 and see what happens! 🙂

I think I'll bench test with all the ram just to make sure I have a good set now, then yank 32 gb back out.

I appreciate all the contributions here, saves a lot of trial and error.
