128GB compatible without issues? F4-3000C14Q2-128GVRD or CMD128GX4M8A2666C15?

hi guys, I am about to purchase one of the two KITS below! will they work without issues and compatible with latest BIOS update?

RAM options:

    G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 128GB (8 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000) Intel X99 Extreme Performance F4-3000C14Q2-128GVRD

    CORSAIR Dominator Platinum 128GB (8 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2666 (PC4 21300) Desktop Memory Model CMD128GX4M8A2666C15

...PS: for some reason the website with DRIVERS & TOOLS for R5E does not open, loads itself to death...nirvana!

after clearing CMOS, overview:
62949
BIOS details:
62950
and found this SPD INFORMATION, which shows exactly the same for every RAM stick:
62951

OK, well I would simply experiment with 1.38.1.39...1.4 Dram voltage and 1.3v VCCSA and maybe 1.25v VCCIO just to see if it was possible for the memory controller...but really I would hate to run the IMC at that voltage and would declare that CPU unfit for such a large kit of RAM.

This assuming that there is no problem with sticks of RAM....to test that you'd have to test one stick at a time in recommended slot...

Arne, with those vccio and system agent voltages 24/7 in a H-E, the bud will probably have to go for a new 6xxx...

128GB would run better at 2666. So many GB's at 3000 100:100 is a no go for sure, even with 1.30v in vccio and agent plus 1.50v for dram voltage.

😛

Rocafella, have you tried strap 125 100:133 at 3000???
Asus x670e Hero, 7950x, TG 7000, Master 4090, 970 PRO, 860 EVO, Intel 750,
SN850, SN750, 840 Pro, 2xSkyhawk 4TB, Pioneer S12U
EVGA T2 1600, Silverstone TJ11, Custom LC, Acer Predator x35, Philips OLED

Yeah totally...

Mr rocafella1978, by his own admission, is not exactly happy in the BIOS...so was trying to stay simple... and strap 125 means you don't get speedstep etc.

I'd rather run lower frequency tighter timings myself...but...

By the way...i didn't see the tweak of changing Rampage Tweak to 1 or 2...this might help quite a bit...

hi guys, absolutely grateful and thankful for your help! believe me, I am absolutely not comfortable in the BIOS!

But after all the BSOD's, I simply swapped and tested with the sticks, and nothing changed, so started reducing the sticks, basically 64GB.
then went into BIOS (Vers.1501) -> changed only the following:

  • DRAM Frequency = 3000
  • DRAM Timing Control = 14-14-14-34 (rest AUTO)
  • DRAM Voltage CHA, CHB, CHC, CHD = 1.35

started up, cut the boot/ POST time by 30seconds at least and booted up right into windows with no hickups and no glitches. so far no BSOD, will continue to monitor system, but i think 128GB is no go. (at least for people with my knowledge base...or with i7-5930k...one or the other)

OK...does seem the CPU is not happy up that high with that quantity...

Plug and play for that much RAM is more in the 2400 2666 range...

hi Arne, I guess by seeing this, only possible with 128GB @3000Mhz -> i7-6800K, i7-6850K, i7-6900K and i7-6950X.

as my i7-5930K was happy with the 64GB @3000Mhz -> it seems so far, otherwise will just drop back sell the kit and get 2133Mhz 64GB kit.

not sure, but at least it is working now. and again many thanks for your help! really appreciate it, especially your guidance and patience!

Nah...you're welcome 😮

and yeah....Broadwell E might do better...

hi cekim, hope you are well. sorry to bother you, but i have struggled getting my RAM modules any of them to work with XMP, i always have to choose auto and as soon as i activate XMP doesn’t boot anymore. below are my RAM modules, and i have tested every single one, alone and PC boots and works.* *G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 128GB (8 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000) Intel X99 Extreme Performance F4-3000C14Q2-128GVRD is there any way you could share/ post screenshots of your BIOS settings how you get these to work? thank you for your help.*
