Thought i'd update on the situation, I bought a new SATA III 256gig SSD for around 150 and all is fine now  All my other SATA drives are working fine too with all my stuff on it so that is a good signThanks for your help!

Thanks NemesisChild for confirming the SATA ports for me, at least that is right. I will use the motherboard cables that came in the BOX, I'll also update firmware for the hardrive and use the drivers from the ASUS site.
