Not a perfect answer but have you tried plugging a usb keyboard, if you have the same problem its a hardware issue, if not id suggest the ribbon from keyboard to motherboard

So starting with the simple bit lol is free, easy and just rules it out.
Right click on your desktop where there are no icons or folders,
