This is very very unlikely to be BIOS related.
Shot into the dark: Your system time might be off and you did not adjust the time after BIOS upgrade. Your Windows did not yet update the system time. Wrong system time is causing issues with certificate...
Sure, you are right. It is some effort but actually it's a one-off thing and with modern modular BIOS/UEFI it would just have to be done once and all users would benefit from it on every single upgrade.
Moreover again it would enable remote upgrades ...
