Re: TUF A17 FA706IU Freezing Issues – Still experiencing this after 3+ years

Hello everyone,

I wanted to revive this thread because I’ve been experiencing the exact same freezing issue on my TUF A17 FA706IU ever since I bought it over 3+ years ago

Like others have described, I get random 3–5 second freezes that happen regardless of what I’m doing—browsing, typing, gaming, or even just idling. There’s no spike in CPU/GPU usage, no clear pattern, and no useful logs in Event Viewer. The system just briefly locks up and then resumes like nothing happened.
I’ve tried:
  • Multiple clean Windows installs
  • BIOS updates
  • Various AMD and NVIDIA driver versions (both from ASUS and directly from AMD)
  • Chipset drivers, power plans, and even registry tweaks
Nothing has provided a permanent fix—the issue always returns sooner or later.

Reading this thread gave me hope that the AMD Graphics & Chipset Driver V26.20.14048.2 might finally solve it. Unfortunately, the official download link is no longer active (404 error), and I haven’t been able to find a reliable mirror.

If anyone still has a working link or a backup of that driver version, I’d really appreciate it if you could share it (via PM or a trusted file host). I’d love to test it and confirm whether it resolves the freezes once and for all.
Thanks to everyone who’s contributed to this thread—it's reassuring to know I’m not alone in this. Hopefully, we can find a stable solution together.

Best regards,
auremarc

Hello,

Other models also share the same drivers so I found this one with the same driver version.

Hey @auremarc

My TUF A17 FA706II has been crashing too lately. The display freezes and no inputs are accepted.

I am running Linux Mint 22.2 Cinnamon though, so our experiences may differ.

I can reboot my laptop with the REISUB cheat and check journalctl, but nothing certain has popped up. I did use ChatGPT to analyse the journal output and **supposedly** the A17 is notorious for crashing.

I have only tried changing display drivers and this worked, for a day. I will try other solutions too, but if you manage to find any driver updates, certainly let me know.

I have an A15 506iu, with Ryzen 9 4900H and GTX1660Ti. I have it for like 3-4 years. In the begining i sent it back to the local service. Since "it passed" its own asus test software, they cannot do anyithing with it. (I will never buy an ASUS again btw, and hope it will go bankrupt, because they litelarry stole from me.)

What is happening for me, is that: If I launch a game or watch a 4k video it is not freezing. Only if i want to do low energy consumption things like browsing.

I tried several methods, windows, bios, drivers, power management, but nothing worked for me.
If i delete the igpu driver with ddu, it wont freeze. But in this case the dgpu is not working too, because igpu is necessary for it to work properly.

So this is where Iam now, cannot find a solution. F* the service, f* asus. I hope you read this.
