PCIe lanes on ASUS TUF Gaming A16 (2024) FA607PI

Hi,

the GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU in my new ASUS TUF Gaming A16 (2024) FA607PI runs at PCIe 4.0 x8 but both GPU and CPU do support PCIe 4.0 x16. Is this by design or some bug, missing driver or something completely different?

I'm running Windows 11 Pro 24H2 64-bit. Both Windows Updates and drivers are, as far as I can tell, up-to-date. Any help/insight is appreciated!

As mentioned above, it's pcb design dependent for the 4080/4090 laptops. My Strix Scar 17 4090 has x8 too
Yeah likewise, I've got so many pcb photos of laptops so I can actually see the physical lanes and how they are routed on each laptop, there's no artificial limitation for the 4080/90 laptops, just different space considerations.

16 lanes does take up a considerable amount of pcb space considering nothing else can be built close to them for signal integrity reasons.
