As the title says, my ASUS TUF F17 repeatedly switches between battery and plugged in, with some chance to just shut down. This usually happens when opening games. It usually happens during the startup of a game. I've monitored the CPU utilization in task manager and there's a spike whenever it happens. My assumption is that I have a problem with my PSU, but that would set me back by a hundred bucks, which I'm not ready to commit to. I've tried running power test on OCCT and it instantly shuts down my laptop (I'm not very well versed in testing, so I just went with the default settings). I've also been checking on how to undervolt (downgrading bios to make throttlestop do stuff n waaat? i have throttlestop but i dont undersand half of the stuff there), and other quick fixes but I haven't really gotten around on how to do it and which settings are the best. I have also done most of the usual recommendations like updating bios, graphics drivers, etc.
My PSU is 20V-12A-240W. I used a multimeter to check, and it showed a pretty stable 20V. Is there another way to check the PSU without going to a repair shop?
I've had this happen to old games (warframe. borderlands 2). For less intensive games, once I pass the initial loading screen it usually has no problems. But for newer games, I've had my laptop shutdown without warning after 1 in-game explosion. I have all my game graphics set to low (if needed, my GPU is NVIDIA GeForce 3060).
I'd really appreciate any help you can give a non-techy guy like me. Please let me know if there are any other details you might need to help diagnose my problem. Thank you in advance!

Hello,
What is the exact model of the laptop, TUF F17 XXXXX, So I (everyone) can see the specs.
This might be power related but equally could be something else as OCCT is placing a high load on the CPU so if it's getting too hot it will also shutdown.
Are you able to post a screenshot of the temperatures with the laptop doing nothing? (press + on all the sensors and post the entire view with multiple screenshots) (PCH, CPU, VRM, GPU, GPU hotspot,GPU MEM)
https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
Power supply testing requires a load to fully test so unless you can do that there is no other way.

Hello,
Thank you for your reply, the model for my laptop is "ASUS TUF Gaming F17 FX707ZM_FX707ZM"
This is a screenshot of HWMonitor. Are these screenshots enough? Thank you

Thanks and the last screenshot you have ASUSTek COMPUTER IONC. FX7... Can you press + on that too, (I think it might show the motherboard temp).
So the power issue, usually when the battery wear rate is 30% its on the edge of being completely gone and this is likely why it's going from plugged in to charged often.
Does the laptop even run on battery only if you were to try?
I think the battery is your main issue, even when you try games if there is a massive power draw the laptop can try to pull from the battery at the same time so if it's failing it can cause it to switch off too.
Monitor the temps when gaming to see how high they get (play in windowed mode so you can see side by side view), Peak (MAX) temps are going to be high but more important are the current temps during game play, so if its always at 95+ it's a problem.
How much is a new battery? (should be a lot cheaper)

Here's the last screenshot. It works without the battery, although being a gaming laptop, there's not a lot I could do whenever I unplug it (battery life already short too). Which temp should observe? I did notice some that peaks at 99 sometimes.

Keep an eye on all the temperatures you can see for the GPU and CPU, your CPU must not hit 100 Deg C, past this it will also turn off. (Too close means it's also likely to shutdown)

CPU temp goes up to 100 while the GPU temp stays at around 70 while gaming

If you look at the CPU frequencies and tick disable Turbo in ThrottleStop, does it limit your CPU to 2.3GHz?
My CPU is 2.2GHz in this screenshot.
And if so, if you run the games or benchmark is it stable / how hot does it get?

It goes to around 1.6GHz

That's ok, your CPU has 2 types of cores.
Performance Cores & Efficient Cores
P-cores are used for gaming and this is the one that does most tasks so it's at 2.3GHz.
E-cores not used for anything (minimal uses) and will be 1.6GHz like you see (they run lower)
Does this help in any way / also check max temp with Turbo Disabled. (clear min/max in hardware monitor)
