Mixing RAM on ASUS?

bidge
Level 7

Hi, I couldn't find anything about this online so I'm asking here seeing as the RAM upgrade capabilities seem pretty specific to my laptop, and i would be potentially required to mix RAM if I were to upgrade it

I have a TUF Dash Gaming F15, model number is FX516PE.

Already in it are 2x8GB RAM sticks, both DDR4 3200. Out of these 2, only one of them is replaceable, the other one is soldered down somewhere in the laptop. I was watching a video that said it's possible to change the replaceable one to more GB of RAM as long as the DDR and speed are the same as the non-replaceable one.

My question is, as the max RAM on this laptop is 32GB, what are my options here? The video said it's possible to put a 32GB stick into the slot which will make it single stick 32GB RAM, or put a 16GB stick in the slot that can go dual with the 8GB stick, but I've heard mixing RAM is never a good thing.

TLDR which would be better out of the 3 available options due to the hardware of this laptop:

2x8GB RAM (current RAM setup)

1x32GB RAM

1x8GB + 1x16GB RAM

why would any of these options be better or worse? what can i expect from switching to mixed GB or single stick? THANKS SO MUCH!!!
