ASUS ROG Unveils Beta BIOS for 14th Gen Non-K Processors to Enhance Performance on Intel® 600/700 Series

TAIPEI, Taiwan, February 16, 2024 – ASUS unveils Beta BIOS for Intel® 600/700 Series motherboards, boosting CPU performance to higher level for Intel 14th Gen Non-K Series Processors.

Update the Intel microcode to version 0x123, allowing for disabling the Current Excursion Protection (CEP)1 for improved performance2 on Intel 14th Gen non-K series processors.

The Beta BIOS for ASUS Z790 series motherboards now are available. B760 & 600 series will be updated shortly!

1 CEP is a processor integrated detector that senses when the Processor load current exceeds a preset threshold by monitoring for a Processor power domain voltage droop at the Processor power domain IMVPVR sense point.

Disable CEP may increase performance in MT workloads on systems with a Loadline (LL) lower than 1.1 mOhm.

Disabling CEP for performance enhancement may lead to increased power consumption and temperature.

2Ensure adequate CPU cooling or use a higher-spec cooling solution.

On the page 1 there is a post from Silent_Scone that explain that the Intel CEP is disable by default on 13th Gen.

Thanks but I have a 13600k with tuf b760 and I cant change the CEP option because its gray and its not selectable !
So I assume CEP is enable on my board and I can not change it !  Am I wrong ?
So my question was Do we get the option to disable CEP ?

I consider that ASUS has taken the same measures as MSI:

This topic: https://www.msi.com/blog/lowering-cpu-voltage-and-temperature-without-compromising-performance-disab... indicates that the new CPU microcode allows to disable Intel CEP on B760 motherboards only with 14th Gen CPUs (K and non-K).

So, the new Intel Microcode introduced in the last revised BIOS concerns only the 14th Gen non-K (non-B0 stepping) CPUs to support disabling CEP, just as K-series CPUs on Z-series motherboards already do.

This news https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/cpus/msi-details-how-to-make-your-intel-cpu-run-cooler-wi... indicates: “MSI is deploying the new firmware with the updated Intel microcode in two waves. The first wave consists of Z790 and B760 motherboards, while the second includes the B760 and 600-series motherboards. The first batch of firmware is already available for download at MSI's website, while the second batch is scheduled for a late March release.

What is the exact model name of your motherboard?

Thanks .

I have a TUF GAMING B760-PLUS WIFI .
I really hope on the next firmware ASUS let us (13th Gen owners) to disable the CEP too .

@Ehs_m83
Your TUF GAMING B760-PLUS WIFI received the update, but it's a non-Z chipset which means you won't be able to disable CEP for 13th Gen CPUs. However, you could if you have a 14th Gen. The table above will not change in any updates.

Yes I have the latest bios but sadly like @MasterC said there is no plan to give us option to disable CEP like 14th gen .

Well, I disabled CEP on my 14900 non K and tested it with Cinebench 23 and no-limits in the Bios (v.2102). I run the 14900 with air cooling (NH-U12A) and an ASUS ROG STRIX Z790E. As far as points are concerned it gained some 5% (around 38,5K multicore) but what is more important it did it at lower temps. Now max temp is around 85°C, while with CEP enabled it went 95°C and above.

why we aren't get this ability to disable CEP also for 13 K series on B760 ?
